I received product/compensation in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
My favorite class in school when I was younger was computer class. They were just coming out and we had limited time with them in school. The computers had two games on them, one of them being Oregon Trail. I remember playing it every second we had free time and then at home when I finally got a computer.
Flash forward to a few years ago when I came across a website that featured old computer games and re-discovered my love for the simple game of Oregon Trail. My 11-year old became hooked and introduced his friends to the game and they played the classic game over and over.
Well now thanks to Pressman Toy Company there is a way to bring Oregon Trail to a new generation (and the original fans of the game) in a screen-free way. Actually there are a few ways depending on your mood: wether it be a card or board game mood.
The Oregon Trail: Journey to Willamette Valley
Oregon Trail: Journey to Willamette Valley is Pressman’s newest addition to the Oregon Trail collection. This competitive strategy board game has every player racing their wagons across the trail in a way unlike other board games, well at least ones I have played! You have to place tiles to work your way across various obstacles and places. It is for ages 13 and up so more for older fans. I love how this game is more challenging than other board games while still making it fun – I have tried other games that are too complicated and make it a chore to play. Definitely a game that will take a few rounds before you tackle it.
If you are looking for a more travel and compact version of The Oregon Trail, there is The Oregon Trail card games. These card games can be played sepertely or added together! While I am usually more of a board game person, I love the portability and game time for the card games. Playing time is around 30 minutes.
The Oregon Trail Card Game
What makes The Oregon Trail Card Game different from other card games is you work together.
The Oregon Trail: Hunt for Food
The Oregon Trail: Hunt for Food Game is a card game that can be played alone or as an add-on mini game to the original Oregon Trail card game. You work together with this card game as well to hunt and collect meat. We haven’t use this game yet as my family is still working on the original Oregon Trail card game but I am excited to have this card game for adding gameplay. I feel like sometimes games need a pick-me-up to spark excitement and this second game does just that!
