I received product in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
So summer here in the Midwest means lots of outside playing time because we have to take advantage of any good weather we get. It also means we have days where it is too hot to play outside or we road trip both to near and far places. So while I discourage video games in the summer, I do see a reason for them and sometimes they are honestly a great break for both me and my kids.
What are some hot new games from Nintendo to unwind to this summer?
Pokemon Snap
New Pokémon Snap features islands teeming with untouched nature – from dense jungles to vast deserts, all home to different wild Pokémon. Players will take on the role of a budding Pokémon photographer and work with the Lental region expert, Professor Mirror, and his assistant, Rita, on an ecological survey to photograph Pokémon thriving in their natural habitats. Along the way, players can capture Pokémon behaviors that aren’t normally seen! Professor Mirror will evaluate their photography prowess as they investigate the mysterious Illumina phenomenon and build their very own Pokémon Photodex.
Features:
See a different side of Pokémon in a new photo-snapping adventure, only on Nintendo Switch
Explore unknown islands with scenery like lush jungles and tropical beaches throughout your journey
Research various Pokémon in their natural habitats and capture Pokémon behaviors that you don’t normally see
Meet Professor Mirror and work with him to uncover the mystery of the Illumina phenomenon and Pokémon with a special glow that can be found in the Lental region
Take in-game photos to make your very own Pokémon Photodex
Pokémon Shield
Begin your adventure as a Pokémon Trainer by choosing one of three new partner Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble.
Then embark on a journey in the new Galar region, where you’ll challenge the troublemakers of Team Yell, while unraveling the mystery behind the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta!
Explore the Wild Area, a vast expanse of land where the player can freely control the camera.
Team up with three other players locally or online in the new multiplayer co-op Max Raid Battles in which players will face off against gigantic and super-strong Pokémon known as Dynamax Pokémon.
Certain Pokémon can even Gigantamax to gain a new look and a powerful set of G-Max moves.
But there’s more to being a champion than honing your battle skills: you can pick your own clothes and get a new hairdo while visiting the stores in town, so you can be the trainer you want to be.
Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter newly discovered Pokémon as well as familiar ones that will look a little different in their new Galarian forms!
For another way to level up your Pokémon, assign them Poké Jobs to complete, and for fun, you can even play with your Pokémon in Pokémon Camp!

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
The Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury game features the same great co-op gameplay, creative levels and power-ups as the original game, but with added improvements. In the Super Mario 3D World part of the game, characters move faster and the dash powers up more quickly. Both adventures support the newly added Snapshot Mode—pause the action to get the perfect shot, apply filters, and decorate with stamps!
In Super Mario 3D World, choose from Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad and set off to save the Sprixie Kingdom. Each character has a distinct playstyle—Luigi can jump extra high and Peach can float for a short time. Rosalina is also available as a playable character later in the game! Jump, dash, and pounce to reach the goal while collecting Green Stars, coins and power-ups.
Collect stamps throughout your adventure in Super Mario 3D World and use them in Snapshot Mode (in both Super Mario 3D World and the Bowser’s Fury adventure) to create masterpieces to share with friends and family.
In Bowser’s Fury, Mario arrives on Lake Lapcat and is confronted with a rampaging Bowser! Join forces with Bowser Jr. and venture through an interconnected world made of cat-themed…well, everything. Enemies, flowers, and even birds take on a feline form.
Need some extra assistance bringing Bowser out of his frenzied, furious state? Another player can take control of Bowser Jr. and help out by attacking enemies and storing power-ups. Two sets of claws are better than one!

Don’t forget about “Me” Time
While I love my family and playing games with them, sometimes I admit I like to take our Nintendo Switch and get some “me” time in. Something about unwinding with a video game is a great way to escape for a little bit. I like too the challenge of some of the games as they give my brain some exercise!
