Portraits
Student and administrator portraits are often considered the most important aspects of any student yearbook. All students get their photos taken, often with an accompanying message at the bottom, which provides a great review moment whenever the alumni check their old yearbooks. Faculty, staff, and administrators should also be included in the photo section since this helps recognize their efforts as well within each of their roles. Student portraits give students a chance to look back at their high-school identities, and it also gives priority to graduating classes who get first-class treatment and consequently capture their achievements forever for all to see.
Clubs and student groups
Student yearbooks also document all the activities held by school clubs, all achievements reached within the last year, and also the individuals who make it possible for these groups to succeed. School clubs and groups present students with an avenue to participate in co-curricular activities which positively enhance a student’s life in school. By acknowledging the achievements of the various clubs and student groups, the yearbook acknowledges the importance of balancing academics and co-curricular activity, which in turn encourages a more balanced student culture. Capturing the activities and achievements of student clubs and groups helps motivate the members to pursue further success, and also entices new students to join these groups, especially if they have the reputation for success.
School events
School events can take many forms, including sports days, homecomings, inter-school competitions, and parades. These school events form essential yearbook chapters that can get utilized as a looking glass into the school’s culture as well as the student’s participation and competitiveness in many extra-curricular activities. In these chapters, the yearbook can highlight the school’s successes against their rivals in sports, science competitions, and other head-to-head interactions where coming victorious elicits a sense of pride for the students and the school in general. These wins and demonstrations of the school’s extra-curricular activity can help the school attract more suitors as it seems like a good promoter of healthy school life. Capturing the highlights of these major school events can help expose student life at the school, and whether or not the students enjoyed life at the school. The yearbook captures moments like homecoming dances, Halloween parades, and others, which students can look back upon and reminisce on the fun they had at the school.
School Administrators
School administrators help run the school and mold students into the adults they become. Student administrators have the duty to ensure that the school runs smoothly and that the students get the best possible result in all their undertakings. It is, therefore, important for all yearbooks to appreciate the efforts of these administrators by listing their duties as well as a few wise words shared with students.
Special awards
The yearbook also holds a section for awards and recognitions for exceptional students and staff which highlight the individuals with the most outstanding achievements within the school within the course of the year. These awards could be sports trophies, academic achievements, or awards to students or staff who stand out within their peers for exceptional performance or behavior. These documentations of exceptional performances can also give other students a glimpse into how these successes are duplicable, thus promoting greater performances in subsequent participations.
