ABOUT:
Learning Resources has been a leading manufacturer of innovative, hands-on educational materials for classrooms and home use for more than 25 years now. They are a trusted company by parents and educators for their high quality, award winning educational products. From ages preschool through middle school there are over 1300 products to choose from.
MY THOUGHTS:
Finding games that are both fun and actually educational for my boys ages is not easy. They are only 3 and 4 and many games are either too hard for them or not fun enough to keep their attention.
Listen up and think fast, young pizza makers! Chef calls out toppings for children to put on (and take off) their pizzas.
- Reinforces listening, counting, and early addition and subtraction
- Supports children with self-checking audio
- Challenges students with 2 levels of play
- Includes 4 pizzas, 48 toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, olives and peppers), and talking chef (3.5″L x 3.5″W x 5″H) with volume control
- Requires 3 AA batteries, not included
- For 2-4 players
- Grades PreK+
Even though Pizza Mania is technically an Early Math game, to my boys its just a fun game. It is a game that comes with four plastic pieces and pizza toppings, everything being quite durable! The game also comes with a pizza chef which is a plastic pizza guy who talks you through the game! He does require 3 AAA batteries, which are not included and his Italian voice makes my boys laugh. There are only two buttons on him, Start and Game so it is quite simple for my boys to play, but I do have to get them started as there are two games to choose from.
The first game, Pizza Party, is more for beginners (or younger players) as it uses basic adding and subtracting by 1-3 toppings. The chef tells players what toppings to add or take away from their pizzas.
The second game, Pizza Panic, is for more advanced players. It is basically the same as the first game but faster.
The games last about a minute and at the end of the game the chef will tell you what should be left on your pizza, whomever’s pizza matches – wins! So yes there can be more than one winner! I really like that there (hopefully) isn’t just one winner, as so many games are about competition but this game is more about self-confidence and paying attention. It encourages players to pay attention, listen to directions and not necessarily compete. While it is for 2-4 players (ages 4 and up) , really one person can play on their own to practice. My 3 year old loves to make the pizzas on his own and he is slowly understanding that he needs to listen to the pizza chef’s directions. Oh and did I mention that their is a volume control on the back, I hate when toys only have one or two sounds levels.
BUY IT: Pizza Mania retails for $24.99 and is available at http://www.learningresources.com, online retailers and specialty stores.
WIN IT: (1) US winner will receive the game Pizza Mania
