I said I would never been a baby-wearing mama, but I also said I would never get a minivan or let my kids thrown temper tantrums in stores. Well I have my minivan and the other day Aidan laid down in the middle of Baby Gap and I left him there while I shopped at a nearby rack. (I could of course see him, but he wasn’t crying or whining, just laying down pouting in front of the registers!) As curiosity was getting the best of me, I had to look into why so many parents are baby wearers. I was shocked at all the benefits sited by various Pediatric journals. Such benefits include: Cry Less, Are Healthier, Become Independent Faster, Sleep Better, and Happier. I am open to try out anything especially if it will make my life easier as a mom and my children’s lives better!
The Sleepy Wrap has no buckles, snaps, or twisting clips, it is just a soft, yet heavy cotton knit with a touch of spandex that you wrap around yourself. When I first opened it, I was so confused, I mean I am a person who likes to follow directions and with the Sleepy Wrap, it is so flexible. There are so many different ways you can wrap it around yourself and wear your baby, which it amazes me with how simple of a product this is. It is a natural way to wear your baby so you can comfort them with your movement, heartbeat, voice, scent, and warmth.
Benefits of the Sleepy Wrap:
- You can use it immediately after your child is born as it gives great support. I know some carriers have a minimum weight and height.
- Your child is completely supported and since there are different ways of carrying your child you can make sure he is comfortable and safe.
- Durable fabric yet so soft! Since it is so strong, you can actually use the Sleepy Wrap as long as your child will go in it. It can also hold twins!
- Discreet nursing. No special nursing covers or banishing yourself to some privacy. You just position your child and then fold the wrap so it covers you. I wish I had this when I was nursing!
- One Size fits all. You wrap it around and it will always fit you and your child comfortably!
- No time limits on how long you can wear your baby. I know other carriers suggest taking your baby out after a certain period of time, but with the Sleepy Wrap there are no pressure points on mom or baby.
- Evenly distributes weight as both straps wrap over your shoulders instead of carrying your child in your arms, on one shoulder, or on you hip.
- Cleans Easy. This is a must because of course your baby will spit up on it or you will drop food on it! Wash, Tumble, and Dry!
- Affordable. Under $40 and if you live in the US you can even get Free Shipping right now! Shipping to other countries is also at a reasonable price.
So what did my boys think of the Sleepy Wrap? They loved it, Aidan not so much because he is in his go-go-go stage, but Gavin loved snuggling next to me. I love that I can wear Gavin comfortably and still have 2 hands to do stuff with Aidan. I no longer have to say “Hold on, let me put the baby down.” Now I wrap Gavin up and we go about our business around the house – laundry, vacuuming, and just relaxing. My favorite time is when he falls asleep in it! He is also adorable when he is looking around and taking everything in.
I still haven’t tried every position of carrying him, as the possibilities really are endless. You have to check out their photo gallery and see all the ways to wear this wrap, it is truly amazing! And so simple – It takes literally minutes to wrap it around yourself and then pop your child inside!
To end here are some pictures of my boys in the Sleepy Wrap (9 months and 26 months old.) I was actually surprised at how much lighter my 26 month old in the wrap rather than when I carry him. I can’t wait to try to wear him on my back since he is now in a piggy-back phase! Also, my 9 month old, who doesn’t really want to snuggle anymore since he wants to go go go everywhere actually snuggled against me. Also, once I got the boys situated I didn’t have to keep re-adjusting the wrap, since it is elastic it stretched to form around them!
UPDATE: I have a $5 off coupon code for everyone that is valid until 4/19/2009. Enter “mamasmoneysavers” at checkout!

I’ll have to look into this! Does it ever hurt your neck? I have small shoulders, so a lot of slings will ride up and rub against my neck. I love my Hotslings sling, but it isn’t stretchy enough.

I have a Moby wrap but it works exactly the same and I just love it. Baby Sister and I use it all the time – especially when she is tired and we are out and about . 🙂
