Board games and video games used to be two separate activities for me, until I played the Electronic Arts (EA) game Hasbro Family Game Night. At first I admit, I was skeptical and thought “How can playing a board game on the Wii be as fun as playing it the old-fashioned way?” Wow, is all I have to say!
Family Game Night includes 6 games and is hosted by none other than the man himself: Mr. Potato Head. The games are: Connect 4, Battleship, Yahtzee, Boggle, Sorry!, and Sorry! Sliders. Not only do you get to play the original game, but also you can creative your own mix of games and try out a few other versions of each game. You even earn themed trophies, decorations, and furniture to customize your game room!
This is definitely a fun game, whether you are playing by yourself or playing a party version with up to four players. I actually like the classic games the best, but my younger sister likes to change it up with the new ways such as Reverse Yahtzee and Battleship Barrage. My favorite game is Yahtzee and I could play it for hours! I even got into Sorry! Sliders, which I have never played the actual board game before. It is also very easy to play with the Wii remote which is another concern I had. I highly recommend this game for anyone who loves these classic board games or looking for games to play at a party! Oh and no more loosing pieces to board games or finding room to store all the board games either!
As much as I am sure people hate to admit it, technology is everywhere, and even though it is nice to turn everything off and play actual boards games as a family, I will take family time any way I can get it. Since my boys are young, they like to watch my husband and I play, but when they are video-game playing age if I have to play a console with them to spend quality time, than that is what I will do. Until then though, I will just spend my nights with my Wii and Mr. Potato Head!
Family Game Night is currently available for the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 2. It would make an awesome Christmas gift!
