Something I have never considered for my backyard or even frontyard is a weathervane. I do think it would be neat to see which way the weather is blowing and there are so many different styles and sizes available now. A great weathervane for any outdoor area are garden weathervanes, whether it be conservative or modern. All you have to do a mount whichever weathervane you pick out on a tall pole or even a deck mount, and they are of course rust-free to handle even the weather in Chicago!
A popular weathervane is a rooster weathervane, which actually has a history behind it that goes all the way back to ninth century BC. The Pope actually decreed that rooster weathervanes be standard after an incident with Peter the Apostle. Then the Bayeux Tapestry contained a rooster after France conquered England in 1066. So basically rooster weathervanes are a classic and now they come in a wide range of styles and colors.
There are also the good directions weathervane, which offers a weathervane for any taste. There are angels, planes, flags, various animals, and even a motorcycle weathervane, just to name a few. I actually could not believe all the styles offered, that even I could find something I like. Gone are the days of only have a rooster weathervane as a choice, now whatever your hobby or favorite animal, odds are there is a weathervane to choose from. I noticed the price ranges being between $100 to $300 and most seem like they come with either roof mount or a garden stake. If you wanted to mount it another way, you can of course purchase a pole or other mount. There are even a bunch of styles on sale and with frees shipping, which makes it even easier to convince yourself on purchasing!

I would love to do this but I know that as soon as the neighborhood kids find out I have one, it’ll be missing. Sad but true.
