    Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer Review & Giveaway -US/CAN (Ends 4/1)

    Unfortunately my boys get sick and when they are sick they are crabby and don’t want to be touched. I don’t know how my mom used those Mercury thermometers with us as kids, as they took forever and were so fragile. Now though with today’s technology, taking your child’s temperature has never been easier! The Exergen TemporalScanner is a thermometer that takes just seconds to read a temperature and is used by just gently gliding it against your child’s forehead.

    I love this thermometer! I admit I was skeptical at first because I thought it seemed to good to be true but I did test it against two other thermometers and got the same reading. I even used it on my son when he was sleeping and it didn’t wake him up!

    So how does this thing work is the first question I had? Well, it gauges body temperature by capturing the naturally emitted heat from skin over the temporal artery, which runs across the forehead. The temporal artery is directly connected to the heart via the carotid artery. Tests have shown that the reading is accurate to within +0.2 farenheight, which is actually a much more accurate reading than take a temperature by oral, rectal, ear or under the arm. It is a durable and easy to grasp Digital Thermometer, has only one button, a high-contrast LCD temperature display and runs on one 9-volt battery (included). It also meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements including FDA, ASTM, and UL. It is even better for the environment as it uses infrared sensor technology so there is no mercury or probe covers to purchase for each use.

    Overall, I think this is a great Thermometer for all ages, I use it on my boys as well as my husband and I. My aunt even purchased this to use on my great-grandma (93 years old) because she needed a quick and easy way to check her temperature. I had no problems at all with this thermometer and I really do love how big and durable it is. I haven’t lost it yet! (I tend to misplace thermometers and then can’t find them when I need them!)       Whenever one of the kidlets get sick I always set them up on the couch with the pillow and blanket of their choice. I push fluids, so they always have a drink next to them. I have found that when they have a fever, Tylenol no longer works past age 2 and we have to switch to Motrin. lol

      we whip out the vaporizer,warm blankets,childrens tylenol,vicks vapor rub and good ole campbells chicken soup and gingerale 🙂

      I care for myself by getting extra resto r sleep and try to stay hydrated. If after a couple of days then I go to the doctor.

      I am knocking on wood as I type that my kids don’t get sick very often. When they do they get to stay home, usually with me, and they lay around on the couch. I usually give them medicine to alleviate annoying symptoms like fever and cough and I limit their activity.

      When my kids are sick, I’m their ‘personal nurse’ to be sure! I always do whatever makes them feel better including medicine, a cool washcloth for their head (love that one), chicken noodle soup, a back rub, you name it 😀

      We have an ear thermometer that is always giving different readings. We’ll give over the counter drugs or call a Dr. If we can’t break a temp with Tylonol/Motrin it’s off to the Dr we go.

      When we are sick we try to stay as natural as possible using oregano oil rubbed on baby’s feet daily and other natural remedies (as far as is possible).

      I monitor my child, take the temp regularly, give ovet the counter medicine and if symptoms don’t get better or worsen I call the Dr and make an appt.

      I usually avoid taking temperatures and guess at it by how hot their body feels. Having a better method would help for sure. But I still believe in rest and a lot of water!

      i typically care for myself by guesstimating my temperature because I don’t have a thermometer and then buying an approximate number of cans to match the height of my fever 🙂

      When caring for a sick loved one, I will take his or her vital signs, order lots of bed rest, hot tea drinks with honey and lemon, and possibly a doctor’s visit depending on the situation.

      I usually take her temp under her arm, give her fluids and then some motrin or tylenol if she has a high fever. plus lots of cuddles and kisses of course!

      last night I was home alone with three kids and my three yeat old daughter said she didn’t feel well and proceeded to throw-up her dinner in front of me on the carpet. I calmly picked her up started a bath to clean her up and calm her down. Then tucked her into bed.

      We treat illness with rest fluids and lots of TLC. It will be so nice to check their temp while they are sleeping and not disturb them!

      I baby my babies when they’re sick. Lots of rest, Mrs. Grass soup, quiet time with mom, and a nice long warm bath usually does it.

      When the kids are sick, we use lots of snuggle time and watch tv and movies together. We drink lots of juice and try to eat popsicles if throats are sore.

      My daughter usually gets bad colds. I make sure she drinks plenty of liquids and chicken soup, and usually use a humidifier to make sure the air in her room is nice and moist.

      I usually use Tylenol or advil for my sick child, and if I know there is an infection it is off to the doctor with them.

      My days of caring for a sick child have long passed, but I take care of myself by getting enough sleep, eating vegetarian foods, and drinking lots of water.

      When my kids are sick, I make them a nice comfy bed on the fold out couch and watch tv with them. I make sure they have a box of kleenex, big cup of water, and anything else they might need. They love it. Of course they have to take a nap or else, it’s back to school for them.

      This would be the perfect USEFUL gift for the parents of the surrogate baby that I am carrying (due in June). 🙂

      For my own children, they take probiotics, a good vitamin with DHA (Nordic Naturals) and we eat healthy. This helps them fight off illnesses, I believe. When they are sick, we rest, read books, keep warm, get fresh air when possible, etc. 🙂

      Care very much depends on whats wrong with the child but for a sick tummy and a fever I would strip down, give ice cubes to much on and set up on the sofa a special bed to watch favorite programs on such as fireman sam!

      When my children are sick, I keep them hydrated and comforted. I stay with them, read to them, watch cartoons with them…anything to keep them inactive to allow their bodies to heal.

      I usually trey to keep going, taking appropriate OTC drugs, getting all the rest that I can. The kids get TLc, noodle soup, & whatever the doctor reccomends.

      When I’m sick, I just want to crawl in bed and sleep. I fill up the nightstand with a tall glass of Sprite, medicines, heating pad or wet washcloth-depends, and the remote.

      What makes my kids feel better? Lots of SNUGGLES along with reading books together and watching TV/movies. I’m not afraid to give motrin or tylenol to keep them comfortable and I really push liquids! I’ve been wanting one of these thermometers for a LONG time! Would be so much quicker and easier to use than the digital axillary thermom.

      When I have a sick child, I usually give her a cold rag for her forehead and offer her clear liquids to drink. I also try to make sure she has a movie or cartoon to watch and her favorite stuffed animal. I offer her medicine for the pain, but I don’t FORCE it on her unless the fever is exceptionally high… in which case, I sometimes panic and take her to the ER.

      when one of us get sick i grab a thermometer(glass kind)some 7up and make sure there are popsicles in the freezer, o and i keep a get sick bucket around whoever it is that is sick to avoid nasty messes!

      My kids are all over age 10 now, but when sick…they become TWO again! It is so hard to take a temp with even a digital one by mouth, because WHO wants that when you have the stomach flu or a bad gag reflex. I have become my MOM alot over the years and just place the back of my hand on their foreheads or even on their upper back.
      No matter how old or experienced you are as a mom…it still scares me when they are sick. We have had kids who had febrile seizures with high fevers…you have to get those temps FAST and get them down fast. I would love to have this for my kids and when the little grand kids come to stay…AND even my biggest kid…my hubby! VERY cool item!

      Thankfully my daughter hasn’t been sick much. She’s had a few short fevers from teething and that’s about all. (Thank Goodness!) When I’m sick, I try to get extra rest. I do a lot of homeopathic things, like take garlic pills and echinacea/goldenseal & elderberry tinctures.

      When my son is sick I usually just make sure he is drinking lots of liquids and try to keep him less active than normal…doesn’t usually work, but I try!
