    My Busy Kit Review & Giveaway (Ends 5/5)

    When we go to a restaurant, the doctor’s office, travel, or anywhere else that requires the kids to stay entertained and quiet, I am always looking for something to keep them busy.  My iPod Touch is usually the first “toy” I whip out of my purse, but since I only have one of them, it’s hard because I don’t want them to fight over it.  So now I try to hand off any random toys I have in my purse.  Well now there is a company that puts everything you need for your child to color, play, create and discover all in one fun place!

    My Busy Kit is a small tote that is jam packed with all sorts of activities to keep kids busy and entertained.  The kit is about the size of a lunchbox and comes in a clear vinyl carrying bag (so you can keep using it!)  The standard kit is perfect for kids ages 3 to 7 years old, but they also carry a Toddler version for kids around 18 months old and they will customize kits for kids up to 10 years old.  All the items are also safe per CPSCIA lead and recall notices.

    You can purchase a Standard My Airport Busy Kit ($19.95), which contains linking shapes, washable markers, tap measures, laceboard and more, or there are specific kits geared towards boys and girls ($26.95).

    MY THOUGHTS:

    At first I was skeptical that this little tote bag could be really keep my boys busy, but I was wrong.  I broke out this kit when we went to a restaruant the other night and it was wonderful.  My boys were so excited first because it was something new and second because there was so much inside.  Normally at restuarants I am pushing crayons and coloring sheets at them so it was nice that they could play for awhile and keep everything contained.

    Now granted nothing in this kit was very expensive, but it is just the fact that there is so much to play with that it kept both boys busy.  There were little plastic toys, a laceboard, markers, stickers, scissors, coloring book and more!  I love too that the tote is reusable and everything fits nicely in it.  These kits would really be perfect for so many occasions and even make a great gift for any child.  I am keeping this kit in my car so I have it ready when we go somewhere.  I think having one for each kid might be nice though so no future fights happen.

      My kids usually take their Nintendo DS when we are going to have to wait around in an office, etc… I would love to have something like this as an alternative!

      I make my own busy kit with toys the kids only see when we’re out, I give them the toys one at a time and always plan a snack. The dvd player is for long appointment days and is the last thing I pull out!

      I keep activity books and crayons in my purse, and I also have small magnet books in the car that I can get out if we are stuck waiting someplace!

      At a restaurant we keep our youngest busy by coloring with her and my husband loves to put straws together to make REALLY long ones and then they play games with them 🙂

      I usually take coloring crayons and a book. Sometimes I will let them watch a video on my phone but I try not let it get to that.

      My daughter has flown dozens of times in her two years, one thing that I’ve found to be the most effective at keeping her occupied is a Travel Aqua Doodle! Doesn’t take up much space and is lots of fun for a toddler. Works great at church too since it doesn’t make any noise.

      this looks like a winner….I struggle each week when I get my allergy shot to entertain my 3-year-old while we have to wait 20 minutes after the shot. It’s more difficult these days with a baby too!

      One of my favorite things to keep up my sleeve is pipe cleaners — they take up almost no space and lend themselves to all kinds of fun and funky uses. You can make glasses, monocles, mustaches, etc. If you can imagine it, you can make it with a pipe cleaner. Okay, maybe not a spaceship…

      If i;m on the ball then I have something like coloring or books along with us but when that’s not the case I rely on restaurant crayons or doing eye spy games.

      When we go to restaurants we like to play this game where we draw a row up and a row down of 10 dots (so 100 dots altogether)

      (the above is a smaller example) And then we take turns joining the dots to make little squares. One one person forms a square, they color it in. The trick is to get the most squares, and not let the other person get any. Because it is just lines, it is a real easy game to do, and all you need is a crayon and a napkin.

      We usually play I-Spy when we are in the doctors office or somewhere like that. This would come in very hand though as we are taking a 7-8 hour trip in a month and with 4 boys and a preggo Mommy it could be interesting!

      This is great!! I love it. I usually take a plastic zip bag gallon size and put toys or that have not been seen or played with for a while, a few books and what ever else looks like it will hold my toddlers attention.

      I love this so much because we travel lots and will be all new to him and in a small bag.

      The kid’s are usually entertained with the crayons at a restaurant (they love food so don’t need too much entertaining). Our hard thing is keeping them quiet for church!! We usually have snacks.

      To keep my children entertained when at a restaurant, doctor’s office, airport, etc., I always bring with me a few items that I know they like such as a favorite book, crayons and paper and some toys. I also bring some snack items and something to drink.

      One of my tips: I pack some laces from my daughter’s lacing cards game in a ziploc bag, along with some cheerios and fruit loops and let her create some bracelets and necklaces that she can later eat from. She loves that and this can keep her pretty busy for a while.

      A big bag of tricks! ☺ It’s probably something that most mom’s aren’t prepared for most of the time. I at least have pen and paper in my purse at all times. And if I do prepare in advance we take little toys and books with us to a place with a long wait.

      Mostly I rely on what is available to my children at the places we go. Just today, we were in the vision clinic, and luckily they had Ranger Rick and National Geographic Jr. magazines. My girls are not old enough to read, but looking at the pictures and having us read to them was sufficient. We only dine in child friendly establishments, and know in most cases we will be provided with a coloring sheet and crayons. I prefer these to any electronics we could pack for them. And, my girls never travel without a set of babies, lol. So if there is nothing else around, they at least have their babies to play with!

      we do the crayon thing to keep my daughter entertained but i also carry around a few of her little plastic animals in my bag. when that doesn’t interest her anymore we have to take turns going on little walks with her until the food arrives!

      Oh my gosh…NOW the kids can be entertained by reading or using handheld games…it used to be Gameboy. But as little ones, I remember bribing worked pretty good! LOL…and games Like I SPY! We always had a tote full of books and snacks, even small sets of Lego’s we took everywhere. It was EXHAUSTING!

      Our grandkids would love this now…long trips in the car back n forth would be much easier with new activities like this offers!

      I try to play games with them like “who can find somthing red?”, or “name 3 kinds of animals” when we are at a restaurant or an airport. I would love to win this prize.

      at the Drs. office I let my daughter draw and color all over the paper on the exam table. We also play games like walking on the floor in the exam room only on tiles of a certain color. Whatever it takes! crayolaswap at hotmail dot com

      We usually keep baby entrertained with his cell phone, or any toy that has lights. colors and sounds, although lately it is books that do the trick!

      First of all, let’s not underestimate the power of snacks. Something out of the ordinary, especially if it takes a long time to get through (lollipops, anyone?), is ideal. We like to play Guess Who too–someone thinks of a person, usually a character (often a princess or a fairy….yes, I have girls!) and everyone else tries to guess who it is with yes or no questions. If it’s OK to be noisy, we also sometimes play Concentration or Guess That Song.

      Whenever we go to a restaurant, we always make sure to ask for crayons and paper! If the restaurant doesn’t have coloring things, we’ll switch off on taking my daughter for walks around the restaurant!

      Play Doh and coloring mostly. Sometimes snack or juice does the trick but other times it is little toys like that. I sometimes bring a little car or 2.

      At restaurants we usually rely on crayons, paper, and books. For airplanes we kicked it up a level with new toys, snacks etc. It is always a struggle though.
