    Based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan, the film follows trouble-prone Percy Jackson who finds himself having problems in high school… but that’s the least of his challenges.  It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus have walked out of the pages of his Greek mythology texts and into his life, and they’re not happy – Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.  Learning he is the son of Poseidon, the young teen finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, and embarks on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

    Directed by Chris Columbus (first two Harry Potter films), Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief stars rising star Logan Lerman (“Jack & Bobby”), and features an ensemble cast including Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds), Steve Coogan (Night At The Museum films), Uma Thurman (Kill Bill films), Pierce Brosnan (The Thomas Crown Affair, James Bond films), Catherine Keener (Where The Wild Things Are), and Kevin McKidd (“Grey’s Anatomy”). ThePercy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief  Blu-ray includes over an hour of special features, 10 deleted scenes, a “Secrets of the Gods” featurette, an “On Set” with Brandon T. Jackson, and much more. The standard DVD includes five deleted scenes, “Bringing The Book To Life” featurette and a “Discover Your Powers” quiz.  The Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy will be available for the suggested retail price of $39.99 U.S. / $49.99 Canada and the standard DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98 U.S. / $43.48 Canada.

    MY THOUGHTS:

    I was not sure how much I would get into this movie as an adult, but I am hooked!  I actually reservered the entire Percy Jackson book series at my library and am anxiously waiting for the books to come in!  Anyways, the movie involves mythology and popular gods and goddesses.  Mythology used to really interest me and this movie brought it all back.

    Percy Jackson is a regular high school student who soon realizes he is the son of Poseidon.  He goes on an adventure and it is really fun and full of adventure.  I have not read the book yet, but the movie was really good and I honestly would watch it again alone!  The movie explained the gods and goddesses in a quick and basic way, and I only wish it could have gone into a little bit more detail as I was curious about some of their pasts, but overall it is an awesome movie.  I would recommend it to anyone of any age, although I think kids would have to be around 7 and up to really enjoy it.  I can also see why it has been compared to Harry Potter movies, as the special effects are similar and it involves adventurous kids!

      I think Percy Jackson was an amazing movie, great scenes, wonderful choice for actors, and very suspenseful! I would the describe the genre of the movie as Action, Adventure, and Fantasy.
      Summary:
      Percy Jackson is just a normal kid at school with his best friend Grover Underwood until, one of his teachers Mrs.Dodds calls him in a different room. Something strange happens- a big monster flies at him!
      In this amazing series, Percy finds out he is a half-human half-god boy. Half-blood. He gets sent to Camp Half-Blood where he learns how to fight. Then, he gets accused of stealing Zues’s master lightning bolt, and if he doesn’t return it, a war will start over the Gods of Olympus. He goes on a quest to return Zues’s Master Lightning Bolt and to save his mother.

      I loved Greek mythology growing up & I’m sure I will enjoy seeing the connection between the characters and the mythology I read as a child. I saw the trailer in theaters and these were one of those movies that really caught my eye! I didn’t get to watch it in theaters though, but I would still love to see it 🙂
