Holiday cards are something that I never really thought about until I got married and then even more so when I had kids. Something about personalizing cards and addressing the envelopes each year just kicks off the holidays for me. I also get very excited when I start receiving them and displaying them.
With the holidays just around the corner, I wanted to share 5 ways to create personalized holiday cards.
1. Make your own cards with craft materials. Use glitter, stickers, cut-outs and lots of red and green markers. Now if your kids do them they will probably not look the best, but they will definitely be made with love! Also, I’d recommend going easy on glitter because the person you are sending it to may not want glitter all over their house! You could also buy a box of pre-made holiday cards and just have your kids dress them up!
2. Use a vacation photo or other significant event for your holiday card photo. The first holiday card I ever sent out was the first Christmas after I got married. I sent out photo personalized holiday cards with our wedding picture. Other cards I have gotten though show off vacation photos or sports events.
3. Wear matching sweaters and send photo cards. I have family in Norway and every year we receive matching sweaters and hats for my boys to wear. I use that as they holiday photo! This year my grandma said my husband and I were also getting sweaters and I am not sure if she was joking or not!
4. Don’t have kids, but have fur babies. Send a holiday card with a photo of your pet! I receive about 3-4 cards each year with a picture of a dog from our family and friends who don’t have kids. You could be in the photo too if you’d like! I know some pet stores even have Santa days where your pet could get their picture with Santa!
5. Scrapbook cards yourself. If you are an avid scrapbooker or just like being creative make the cards yourself! These are different than the ones kids make as they use scrapbook backgrounds and accessories. My one friend makes handmade cards every year and just includes a photo of her kids inside. It is adorable and I honestly don’t know how she finds the time, but it really shows she enjoys it and cares!
So whether you make your own cards, use a photo, or even buy a box of cards at your local department store, there is just something about sending and receiving a holiday card that really can bring joy!
