    MY THOUGHTS:

    I remember laughing when a friend of mine in college said she sold knives door to door.  Well later on I realized that she was actually selling CUTCO knives and that they are expensive but worth it.  Now I never really though about how important knives are until I got married and really started cooking.  Cutting fruits, vegetables, and meats with dull, cheap knives can really take a toll on your foods and patience.  Dull knives take awhile to cut through foods, rusts after awhile, may be awkward or hard to grasp, stain, and obviously dull until they barely cut through the surface.  For example, cutting a tomato is usually tricky but with a CUTCO knife it is no problem at all to get clean, smooth slices.

    I was sent the Cook’s Combo which is 7” Santoku Knife and a Trimmer (utility knife.)  The Santoku Knife is so versatile and balanced to create clean slices every time.  I found it great for quickly dicing fruits and vegetables and slicing chicken breasts.  It is not too heavy and since it cuts through easily its not like I need a lot of pressure at all to use it.  The Trimmer is CUTCO’s best-selling knife and is also very versatile in the kitchen.  This knife I found great as my all-purpose knife, especially tomatoes, sandwich rolls, onions, you name it, it cuts it!

    A natural pairing, these two multipurpose knives cover many culinary bases, from trimming meats to dicing vegetables.

    Overall, I have found myself grabbing these two knives over and over.  I love that they are lightweight, have easy to grasp handles, dishwasher safe and they will last for years to come before even needing sharpening.  I will say though that these knives are so sharp that you need to be careful if you are not used to sharp knives and definitely keep them away from kids.  My mom even cut herself while washing dishes because she was used to hand-washing her knives.  She was amazed when I said they are dishwasher safe and how well they cut through everything as she had to then test it out!

      I LOVE my Cutco knives. In fact, my husband seems to have lost one of my table knives and every time I look at the empty slot in the block, I’d kinda like to pull his hair for not being more careful with it. (Although I’m still hoping it’ll turn up in a drawer or in the stacks of dishes & containers he brings home from the office every few months.)

      I’d love to get my hands on that santoku–it’s been on my wish list for the last few years. And the slice & serve–we don’t have a great pie server & my husband makes amazing pies.

      It should be pointed out though that while the knives are dishwasher-safe, putting them in the dishwasher is not really recommended; the harsh detergents will dull the cutting edges faster. I usually put my straight-edged blades in the dishwasher, because I have the Cutco ceramic sharpener and can sharpen them myself, but I’ll usually wash the serrated edges knives by hand.

      I love, love, love my Cutco knives! We’ve had them almost 15 years and I’ve never regretted spending the $$$ for an instant. I’d love to have another pair of Super Shears. I use them all the time in the kitchen and find my self having to wash them over and over by hand so I can use them again 🙂 I’d love to win the Santoku Knife. That’s one I don’t have!
