My Very First App – Night & Day Studios, Inc.
Updated: November 15, 2010
ABOUT THE APP:
The app has gently increasing stages of difficulty, so it will grow along with your child, and continue to challenge them throughout their early years. The app contains 3 levels of game play: Easy (ages 1-3), Medium (ages 2-5) and Hard (ages 3 and up). In Easy mode the screen is divided in half–just like the original books–and your child can swipe the lower and upper halves to find a match (for example, the color yellow with a picture of lemons). The Medium and Hard modes are based on the game of Memory; players are presented with a set of cards face down and must find a pair by flipping over cards and identifying their matches or their related concepts.
When you’re ready to expand the library, Numbers, Shapes, Food, and Animal Sounds are available as in-app purchases for 99 cents each. Later this year Words, Motion, and Animal Homes will be added to the in-app purchase list. Each set has been adapted for all three game levels.
MY THOUGHTS:
This is an adorable app with great illustrations. It looks just like the Eric Carle book’s and illustrations. My 3 year old loves the pictures and colors used. I will say I did need to show him how to use it though. For example, when you load the app it goes to Easy, Medium, and Hard. On Easy you have to swipe the top and bottom to match the color brown with the brown shoe. My son didn’t understand/listen to the directions so I needed to show him what to do and he got the hang of it quickly. There is also a matching game where you flip over tiles to match the brown swatch with the brown shoe. It is a great app to teach colors and how they correspond to items.

Our little one uses it for picture viewing. He thinks it is so cool that way!

There’s a few aps we use with our kids on my husband’s iphone. We love the word world ap for my two year old. Very simple…they have to match the letters moving around to letters in a short word. When they get all of them they spell the word out loud (C-A-T Cat) and it squeezes together to make the picture of that word which they can “play with.” My two year old needed help at first but got it pretty quick, and will sometimes repeat the spellings he hears on it.
We have a couple other aps which my kids use, that I can’t remember the name of. They’re great for long car trips and keeping them occupied at restaurants, and they learn a little too.

My ds6 figured out how to create his own folder on my iphone and how to place all of his games in it. My kids use my iphone for games and flashcards.
