    Staples Minimate 6-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder Review (& Giveaway Ends 5/27)

    With tax season having come and left, now is the time to start cleaning up paperwork (especially old tax papers) and it is important to be aware of identity theft.  With identity theft on the rise each year and a reported one in 20 Americans at risk for becoming a victim, wanted to offer you the opportunity to make sure you don’t become a statistic.

    The best and easiest way to secure your identity? Enlist the help of a shredder. Staples just launched a new line of extremely small shredders, ” the Minimate,”  that can sit right on your desktop.  They’re perfect for your work, desk or home office to be sure any personal/company information are safely disposed of.

    MY THOUGHTS:

    I admit I am terrible at using our shredder, mainly because it is gets pushed so far under the desk and its big and clunky.  I also have our shredder in our home office but I usually open mail in the kitchen.  What I love about the Staples Minimate Cross-Cut Shredder is that it is small and portable.  It is a little heavier than I expected, but if it was too lightweight I would think it was cheap and flimsy.  The Minimate is durable and while it is not for heavy duty shredding it is perfect for the everyday use, it actually says it can be used up to 25 times per day!

    The Minimate fits nicely on my desk and is very convenient.  It doesn’t have a very long plug but long enough to sit on my desk and reach the outlet.  On the front of the shredder there is an On/Off button but what is nice, especially if you have kids around, there is also a button on the side you need to turn on.  It makes it a little harder for kids to use it, but of course smart kids can figure it out if they really wanted to.  I was able to shred a full sheet of paper with no problem and I love that I will be able to more securely shred our documents and I figure with the amount of shredding I do I will only have to empty it once a week or so.  I love too that I can shred credit cards if need be because in the past I have just cut them to shreds myself.  Overall, the Staples Minimate is great and I recommend checking it out, especially if you have given up on other shredders.

    (Even though it has an On/Off button on the front, there is also one on the side that needs to be turned on which is nice if you have kids around.)

      I dispose of old documents by ripping them into tiny pieces or taking them to a local shredding event they have a few times a year in my town.

      I dispose of old documents by cutting out the name and address only…then you can throw away the document and it is untraceable.

      I use a shredder on all documents that identify me. I am especially careful with bank and credit card statements. Unfortuntely my current shredder is getting old and doesn’t do the job very well.

      I’ll be the first to admit that I really need a shredder and the way that I get rid of documents is not the best. Becuase I don’t have a shredder, I will cut up my old credit cards with scissors, and will put parts of the card in different garbage sacks every few weeks. Of course this leaves partial card pieces in my junk drawer for weeks. Worse yet, I do the same thing with my mail. However, at this time all bills come to me via email for review and storage so that definately helps minimize the garbage pile.

      We only use prepaid cards to make online purchases. We shred but we have a terrible, portable, put-it-over-the-garbage can shredder and I hate it.

      Right now, I take my papers to my neighbors to shred, but if I had this shredder, I could do it myself. This unit looks so compact that I could set it on my desk, which would really he handy.

      WE have a full size cheaper shredder that we dont use often enough…too big to sit around the kitchen where the mail comes in, and sits in the basement until I go on a 6 plus hour shredding session like I did a few weeks ago. We stockpile credit card appps and other junk mail til I get an overpowering amount. WE would NEVER think of NOT shredding this day and age.

      Never use free address labels on your postal mail that list your first name. For your return address on envelopes only put The Jones’ for example for the name, never Ms. Miss, Mrs., Mr., Mr. & Mrs. and never ever put your first name, only put your last name.

      Our shredder broke a couple months ago, so I have been shredding personal documents by hand and throwing them away in the same garbage bag I empty the cat box in.

      We keep our identity safe by being VERY cognizant of everything we do involving our personal information-Especially on the internet! Shredding documents, locking up unused credit cards in our safe, ripping up all junk mail and credit card applications, etc.

      You can avoid people finding your documents by paying your bills over the internet but then you also have to make sure your computer is secure!

      This would be a great item to have. Right now I collect things that are super sensitive and bring them to the person who helps us with our taxes. They have a large shredder to destroy the documents. This is a tedious thing though because it is not close.

      I don’t give out personal information over the phone… unless I called that number, it is safer in case of a scam artist.
      When I get rid of old documents.. I usually cut the important info part with scissors, so that it will be hard to piece them back together. We recently contact our bank for our statements to go paperless, cuts down on what I need to file in the cabinets.

      If I have something that needs to be destroyed, I just get my scissors and cut away into a zillion pieces that no one could put back together. I always use numbers in passwords, because it it hard to figure that out and using upper and lower case in your password is even a better way to secure your identity. When in doubt about email, click delete.

      I try to be careful about using my debit card. It seems nothing is safe anymore. I look at the machines and make sure it looks like nothing additional is added to it, aftermarket. I also now shop at “regular” stores and don’t buy from a variety of places.

      Our mail comes in the front door and after a quick sort, we always seem to have personalized offers that should be shredded. It sounds easy, but the to=be=shred pile sits on the kitchen counter and everyone fingers thru it looking if anything is theirs. Later it gets carried downstairs to the desk area for shredding.

      For non glossy I compost my paper – that involves tearing- this shredder would make it easier. I figure unless someone wants to dig through old banana peels etc tthey likely wont find it in compost 🙂
