DVD Review: “Baby Goes Pro Discover Sports”

ABOUT:

The Award Winning Discover Sports DVD introduces children to five of the most popular sports in the world; baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, and soccer. This 25 minute movie is set to a mix of original music and sing-a-long songs, featuring vivid colorful imagery and our 3D animated character Emkei the Monkey as coach. It emphasizes the first two elements of the building blocks of sports, Equipment and Movement. The movements are demonstrated by elite athletes in a technically correct manner. Interactive flash cards along with Emkei, introduce young viewers to the equipment for each sport and the movements performed by the athletes. The goal of this first DVD is to introduce young children to sports because sports are fun! For children under 4.

MY THOUGHTS:

The DVD first starts out with you choosing English or Spanish, then you can check out the Special Features if you’d like.  The first sport is Soccer, which shows an actual kid’s legs working a soccer ball and displays some of the soccer terms.  Next up is basketball and it shows a again a basketball player shooting, passing, and playing, with the terms displayed as well.  Golf is next and this time an animated monkey is used to golf as well as a person.  Baseball was up next, then Tennis.

The DVD is geared towards kids 4 and under, but I think it would be good for kids up to 8 or so, since it goes over the sports terms in each sport that kids might not know. After watching this DVD my boys couldn’t wait to get out and play with their soccer ball and baseball!  I think it is great for both boys and girls and it is very kid friendly.  There is an animated monkey throughout the video and they actually don’t show faces of anyone playing sports, they just focus on the actions and movements instead.
