So this winter they are saying it is going to be worse than last year weather-wise. Chicago winters can be pretty brutal to begin with but last year was definitely pretty bad. We had a blizzard with like 14 inches of snow and probably at least a week of snow days. Now normally our schools don’t take snow days, we start to brave the weather while we are young. Coldness is nothing we are afraid of either.
Now though that I am a mom, I find that I am thinking about emergency prepardness. I mean if we get snowed in for days here I want to make sure my family has enough survival food to get us through. It is also vital for us to have a good supply of water bottles because we have well water so if the power goes out then so does our water. This past summer during a heat wave (the week before I delivered our baby girl) we lost power and water for four days and it was awful. So this winter I am going to make us a kit of some essentials just in case. I figure too if I over prepare then nothing will happen! I came across one site that even offers freeze dried meal packages, BuyEmergencyFoods.com.
