    Crayola “Made in America” Review

    I admit this year was the first year I really appreciated the Olympics in the sense of American pride. I started to think about how important it is that things are still made here in the United States, which seems like a rarity these days. Once company that keeps their prices for some of America’s favorites while manufacturing them here is Crayola. Yep Crayola’s regular-sized crayons, a back to school must have, is one of those items priced reasonably under $2.

    From the small pack of eight crayons to a 120-count box, Crayola crayons are made right here in the United States, Easton Pennsylvania to be exact. Their crayons are made using the finest pigments for intense color and is a special blend of that colored pigment along with paraffin wax for smoothness and clay for strength, that makes Crayola stand out amongst the other brands. Over 1200 employees work to create the high quality crayons many kids and classrooms will be using across the nation.

    Some Crayola facts:

    • Over 650 crayons per minute and up to 13.5 million crayons are made each day.
    • More than 400 different crayon colors are made, including favorites such as burnt sienna, carnation pink and midnight blue.
    • On average, the company makes 3 billion crayons a year, enough to circle the world six times!
    • A solar farm located in Forks Township, PA provides enough power to make 1 billion of the 3 billion crayons that Crayola produces each year and 500 million markers per year.

    For me Crayola brings back memories of my childhood. I remember having this plastic case of a million crayons (okay so it wasn’t a million but back then it seemed like it) and laying on my aunts floor and coloring all the time. I actually looked forward to going there because of those cool crayons, at home I had half the amount of colors. My favorite was always Cerulean blue, it was just the perfect shade – its funny that I remember that. Now I get to share my love of crayons with my own kids and hopefully inspire their creativity. Opening a box of brand new crayons and smelling that smell is definitely an American classic for me. I honestly had no clue Crayola was manufactured here, but it gives me pride knowing it is and that I am supporting our country!

      I use to melt them to make candles with my mom and we swirled the colors together! It was pretty neat! Oh and my favorite color is blue!

      I love Crayola products and now that my oldest kids are 5 and 3, they LOVE to color and I love that time with them and watching them draw and color. I can’t wait for my 20 month old to learn to color and my 4th little one due in January. What a sweet time with my little ones 🙂

      I remember when I was young my baby sister used to EAT my crayons. So annoying! And my mom used to yell at ME thinking I was loosing them.. I never told on her, But I should have , lol

      Crayola’s were my Best Friend Growing up!!! I still like to Color……. my favorite child time picture was a Thanksgiving Scene I had used Crayola’s to color my stick people and a table with all the Tukey Fixins….. I was in 5th grade and my Grandma kept that on her bedroom wall till she passed away…… I was in my 40’s………. Good Memories!!!

      My favorite crayola memory is when my 2 year old foung a crayon in her toybox and decided to color me a picture… on the wall, lol =) and instead of washing it off I signed her name and dated it, and it’s still there =)

      I loved to color. I’d line my stuffed animals and dolls in a row and “teach” them lessons using crayons. Sometimes I separated them into light and dark colors.

      Jungle Green! I remember always checking my big box of crayons for that color EVERY time my mom bought us a new box. I would take it and hide it from my sister so only I could use it 😉

      I love the color salmon and I remember growing up coloring with my mom in books together side by side, I never realized how much that would mean to me until she was no longer here and I was 15 yrs old. Now I make sure to color with my children as well.

      I remember when they had a contest to name colors. That’s when Mac N Cheese and Robin’s Egg Blue came out. I liked the latter best.

      When I was little (I am 60 now) there was nothing better than getting a new box of crayons. I loved the smell and the sharp points of a new box. Thoses were the days!!!

      My favorite color is aquamarine. Don’t know if they still call it that. My favorite memory of Crayola crayons was getting a big carton with a built in sharpener. I am over 60 years old, so you have to understand how innovative that was at the time. Way cool!

      My favorite Crayola memory is the 1st time I got a box of 64 crayons. I thought that was the most wonderful thing. I would color my big Barbie coloring book for hours.

      This is the honest truth. When I was in the third grade, my teacher had us do these crayola drawings, but by melting crayolas with a candle and letting it drip onto the cardboard. I did a spanish girl with a fan and it did turn out very cute. I still have it. But, can you imagine doing that in school today?

      My favorite memory is when I wasn’t feeling the greatest so my boyfriend and I spent the day in bed watching movies and coloring with crayons ^.^

      Then my second favorite memory is getting a big box of crayons and a HUGE coloring book for our 2nd anniversary! WITH stickers I might add. LOL

      I’ve loved Crayon Crayons & Markers since I was probably 3 or 4 yrs old. My daughter loves them and so do my 2 neices. I have a hobby coloring design books so I still use markers daily.My fave color has always been blue. My neices color me lots of pictures that are all over my fridge and desk.       My favorite color is brick red!
      My favorite crayola memory? I was probably 6-7 years old and stayed home sick from school. My grandpa came over to watch me and brought me a brand new big box of crayons and a coloring book. I remember how excited I was lol I think that started my love of brand new crayola crayons haha.

      I remember being in 3rd grade when the Crayola 64 box came out with the built in sharpener. It was like owning the Cadilliac of crayon boxes! I used to be so envious of the kids that got that box. Do you even still make the Crayola 64 anymore.?

      I grew up in a household without much money, but my mom was very particular about certain things. CRAYOLA brand is one of those things. She made our clothing, she didn’t eat meat so that there was enough for my dad and us kids, but she wouldn’t buy the cheaper brands of crayons. I learned from a young age that you truly can count on Crayola. I have several collectors items – retired crayon sets and such – and I’m making sure that my 4 kids and all their friends know that while I’m a penny-pincher and coupon fanatic, I will not cut corners when it comes to arts and crafts. Crayola all the way!

      My new favorite Crayola memory is the fact that my 6 year old son MUST have the coolest colors for school. His younger brother, who is 4, got a 120 crayon box for his birthday and my older son pilfered all of the good colors and took them to school for his crayon box! Ah – brotherly love and respect!

      A fresh pack of crayons with new pointed tips is my best memory. I remember that there were only a big pack of 48 crayons, with the metallic crayons of silver, gold, copper. In fact, a brand new box of crayons is still refreshing at my age.
