My kids love love love digging in the dirt and sand. Every year I buy them plastic shovels, scoops and other little toys, but they always loose them, break them or fight over them. This year I realized with just cutting off part of a gallon milk jug my kids could have as many plastic scoops as they want. You see we go through 2-3 milk gallons a week, so its no big deal to save them up. My boys (4 and 6) had a blast digging with these and when (if) they break, I just recycle it and cut up a new one! If they leave it at the beach or park or wherever, no big deal!
It also doubles as a great scoop to carry stuff in, which is what my 20-month old daughter uses it for! She fills it with little toys and carries it around like a bucket! We have also decorated these in the past with stickers and markers.
It is amazing how something so simple is so much fun, and that it took me this long to think of doing!

I love upcycled crafts. Thank you for sharing this. I use something like this for my bird seed as well.

This is such a great and not too costly way to scoop and you don’t have to worry about ruining anything.

I really like these for playing in the dirt and sand, but also for carrying things in. It would be great for bringing home the seashells.
