Disclosure: I received the product below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
As a child I love dolls, but back then they were pretty much all pink and girly. The dolls were also very stereotypical of girls being just girls, no real careers for them or “boy” jobs. Nowadays dolls have changed and Lottie dolls are just that!
Lottie is not a princess. She is a doll modeled after a regular 9-year old girl’s dimensions, packed in 7.5 inches. She is a doll developed for girls who are hoping to study S.T.E.M. – Science, Math, Technology, and Engineering. She is a doll for strong-minded girls who want their options open. Lottie dolls are actually award winning toys as well – winning the Oppenheim Toy Portfoilio rare Platinum Best Toy Award three times in 2012. Who says girls can’t be a pirate or robot?
I got the chance to check out the Pirate Queen Lottie and she is adorable! I want my own daughter to grow up thinking she can be whatever she wants and these dolls are definitely inspiring. If she wants pink and girly, that is fine too as Lottie has adorable outfits and there is even the Butterfly Protector Lottie. She is a proportioned doll who girls can look too and model after. Her body is not crazy skinny and she wears appropriate clothes. I have seen some other brands dolls out there and I wonder what the companies were thinking with those clothes! Lottie dolls feature removable clothes, because of course she needs to change her clothes, and moveable joints for pose able play. All Lottie dolls also have Saran nylon hair and tactile fabrics with stitching detail that isn’t necessarily found on other dolls at the $19.99 price point. No makeup, no jewelry, and no high heels – just clothes and an appearance of a typical 9 year old. She also has some awesome outfits in her line such as a surf body boarder, gymnast, soccer player and more! Yes there are also adorable dresses as well, she’s not all smarts and tomboy!
Each doll comes ready to be gifted in adorable packaging and includes a collectable “doll box bag” with handles and minimal plastic packaging. Velcro fasteners are used on her clothes for easy on and off for kids and her hair is designed to stay smooth, not knot or tangle. I think my favorite feature though is that she can actually stand on her own! I mean I love the quality and craftsmanship but the ability to be posed to actually stand on her own two feet is amazing, exactly what I want to teach my own daughter to do!
