I use Grammarly to detect plagiarism because as a mom of three I don’t have time for copycats or more babies. My full time job is being a mom and while I work on my blog as much as I can, I don’t have time to police it. Yes there are other bloggers and websites out there that copy other websites either word for word or snippets of it. I have found copies of whole blog posts of mine on various sites across the web on accident and sucks. I work my butt off writing my posts and to have them be copied takes away their value.
It doesn’t just hurt my pride though having my work plagiarized, it hurts my ranking on the Internet. Google punishes websites with low page ranks for duplicate work. So basically what that means is that if Google finds my words somewhere else they will consider that duplicate work and my site could loose its value. Its like a double edged sword – you want your work to be liked so much people want to re-publish it, but then you don’t want it plagiarized. Now snippets here and there with credit back to me is great but I hear horror stories about whole sites being copied and it freaks me out! A blogger friend of mine actually just had her whole site basically duplicated right down to the title of the blog, obviously a different url but nonetheless a whole re-creation!
So yes another thing I have to add to my checklist for my blog is checking for plagiarism but luckily there are sites like Grammarly that make it a little easier to detect and monitor.
