    My oldest son is in first grade and he gets math, to an extent.  He uses his fingers, which drives me absolutely crazy so I have been working with him to draw lines to count.  I explained that he will eventually run out of fingers when he has to count past 10.  When I was younger I had this wooden bead thing, an Abacus, that I loved but they are not as common anymore.  One of my favorite stores, Learning Resources, has a counting frame that is the same concept as an Abacus just smaller.

    This is a great little product for young kids learning to count.  I say little because it is slim and easy for small hands to maneuver.  My boys (5 and 7) have been doing great using this, as they are both visual learners like their mama.  The frame has two different colored bugs, allowing you to count in 5’s up to 20.  It makes it easy to group them and count them quickly.

      I would love to have the Smart Snacks Counting Cookies for my daughter! We always do math in terms of how many cookies, so to have a visual, actual cookies, would be great!
