Disclosure: I received complimentary lessons in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
For the past 10 months or so, I have been taking my boys to Goldfish Swim School in St. Charles (IL) and love it there. I did take my daughter there for six weeks, but she was so little I had to be in the water with her and she just wanted to play. Now that she is turning 3 years old (yikes!) in just two weeks I figured it was a good time to start her in lessons again. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is great that kids as young as 6 months can be enrolled in lessons, but for me it was easier (and more affordable) to wait until she was 3 years old. At 3, she is able to be on her own in class with the teacher and other students, which I feel she listens better to the teacher when I am not right there.
What I love about Goldfish in St. Charles:
- Super kid-friendly colors and designs
- 4 Feet deep water throughout the pool
- 90 degree water – yeah for not being ice cold!
- Tons of showers
- No more than four children per instructor
- Purified water, not chemical smelling or feeling
- Experienced and Red Cross certified swim instructors
- Air conditioned viewing gallery for parents to watch kids
- Tons of changing rooms
- Complimentary diapers for kids, such a nice bonus!
- Swim suit dryer, its the little things that make me happy
- Ribbons given out for learning or trying new things
- They are constantly evaluating your child and will bump up your child if need be
- Amazing staff
- Open swim times and events around the holidays
So back to Olivia, how is she doing? She is like a fish in the water. We’ve only had a few lessons but the teachers have been great with her and I can tell already she is picking up what they are teaching her. We were at my moms house swimming and she kept blowing bubbles in the water, which she was afraid to do before and paddling her arms. I want her to be a good swimmer and know what to do in case she falls in (or jumps in.) Honestly I cannot think of anything I don’t like about Goldfish Swim School in St. Charles. It really is an amazing place and one that my three children are really flourishing at. I will say too that the sooner you can put your child in lessons, the better but if you have to wait because of money or arrangements then I think 3 is a good starting point. At 3 years old, my daughter is starting to listen more, understand safety and want to really learn. I am so grateful that Goldfish moved into my area and we have the opportunity to go there!
This is her excited look:
