Okay so I am not a camping person. I have stayed in a log cabin before, pop-up trailer and trailer home, but that is as far as I will go. My boys, though, are getting to the age where they are anxious to go camping. While I am not about to go camping in a tent with them for multiple nights, I have been considering an RV. My 7 year old actually brought up the idea because we live near a place that sells them and drive past it all the time.
As a kid we took a lot of road trips but always in my parent’s van. I loved those road trips. We have actually driven with our own kids to Florida and back three times already and it’s a 17 hour drive. Driving in an RV would make the trip so much smoother. No more stopping for bathroom breaks, being cramped in our small minivan, spending tons of money on the road eating, oh and eating the same road food over and over. An RV would give us comfort for our family of five. We could just get in and drive, not worrying about stuff we normally would have to worry about! What is the appeal to my boys on an RV? Going to the bathroom in a car, as they say.
I think the reason I never considered an RV is because I thought they were out of our budget. Then I read that an RV vacation can cost a family of four up to 59% less than other forms of travel. I can definitely see saving money in an RV if I factor in everything I can save on by using an RV. I admit too that I am jealous reading about all of our friend’s camping vacations, even if I am not really an outdoors person. Being in an RV just feels like camping, while having the amenities of your home at hand.
