So what books did I get for August?
The Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat (Meadowside Picture Book)
$6.28 – Hardcover
The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea, In a box on the living room floor, They sailed away for a year and a day And these are the things that they saw’ Join two curious children on a quirky adventure, based on the classic Edward Lear poem, The Owl and the Pussycat. Illustrated by Charlotte Cooke, also known for Sunshine and Snowballs & Wish Upon a Dream, this exciting adventure tale will inspire the imaginations of children and adults alike.
This is an adorable hardcover picture book featuring two kids who dress up as an owl and pussycat and have an adventure from their living room. It is such a cute story of imagination and creativity. The illustrations are beautifully drawn and really show off the story. I loved how when I read it I could see my daughter really thinking of everything that happened. For a picture book it is also a great price as sometimes they can be pretty expensive.
Peek-A-Book
$7.19 – Hardcover
With holes to peek through and shapes to peep over, join this cat and dog in their playful, peek-a-boo romp through the pages. For a long, long time, everyone has known that dogs and cats just dont get along. Dogs want to play. Cats want to sleep. Dogs want to chase. Cats want to run and hide! One little cat knows all this very well. So she runs … into a book where she eats a little bear’s porridge, through a story where she circles round and round and down a beanstalk, and through so many more favorite fairy tales
This is a large picture book that features a dog and cat going on adventures through various fairy tales. The dog and cat are thrown into the tales, recreating them. For example in Little Red Riding Hood, the dog is Little Red Riding Hood and the cat is the wolf. The pictures are nicely illustrated and very kid-friendly. My daughter laughed and laughed over the cat and dog being in stories she already knew. Also, there is holes throughout the book to “peek” at what the next adventure is. Oh and for a picture book this is a great price!
Dino Supersaurus: Build And Play (Dino Supersaursus)
$8.99 (paperback book in a box)
Kaboom! T-rex and the evil Sinistaurs are on a mission to destroy New Dino City…again! Get busy building your heroic 3D Supersaurs and help them save the day! Charge your dinos up with superpower add-ons. Your activity book has simple step-by-step instructions and is packed with awesome activities, supercharged scribbling and cool coloring. So get ready to take on the evil Sinistaurs and save New Dino City!
This is an amazing set as not only do you get a great little activity book but you also get a bunch of cardboard dinosaurs to create. I am not talking cheap dollar store activity book either, this is a like a regular softcover book with tons of great activities inside. It is a thin book but there are still tons to do. My 6 year old was more excited about creating the dinosaurs and my 7 year old was happy for the book activities. For the price of $9, this is a great deal and will definitely keep kids busy. The dinosaurs are cardboard and some a little tricky to build, but its a great craft especially for boys who like dinosaurs (or girls) as there are so many girly crafts available. This would make a great gift!
Live, Imagine, Draw (Drawing Books)
$8.99 – paperback
Live, Imagine, Draw is a beautifully designed inspirational sketchbook packed full of ideas of things to draw accompanied by custom-made illustrations; all designed to boost creative thinking. This book contains artistic quotes to get you thinking and blank pages for your own ideas and free drawing, let them start you off and see where they take you. You’ll never be stuck for ideas again! Express and boost your imagination, creativity, and personal style with this great selection of ideas of things to draw, doodle, sketch, shade, color, or scribble.
This is seriously my new favorite book for kids ages 7 and up. I would have loved a book like this as a kid! It is a thick softcover (cardboard) book that has tons and tons of pages inside with suggestions to draw something. For example, “Fill this whale shape with blue creatures” or “Draw something dangerous” or “Create a mosaic with graph paper.” The pages are all different and all your child (or you) needs is a pen or pencil (or maybe some colored pencils and crayons.) It would be the perfect book to give as a gift for a child who loves to draw or a child who needs something to spark their creativity. It is the size of those composition journals kids need for school. I am really impressed though for how many pages there are and that it costs only $9. This would be a great keepsake then when your child fills it.
