Beauty to me has changed since I had kids. I used to spend an hour or so getting ready for the day and I’d buy new clothes regularly because makeup and new clothes meant beauty to me. Then I had kids and one day my oldest son said “Mommy your beautiful.” I hadn’t showered, I was wearing a t-shirt and sweats and had no makeup on. I realized beauty was love, self-confidence and just being myself. Then I had a daughter and realized I had to be the best woman I could be because my daughter was looking at me as a role model. I want her to grow up to love her body and herself.
Here is a selfie I took with my daughter:

Dove is a company that is committed to building positive self-esteem and inspiring all women and girls to reach their full potential. They want women to acknowledge that beauty is defined in all different ways. When I think of Dove, I think of the advertising campaign they have where its all the different women of colors and sizes, standing in a bra and underwear. I love that those women have the confidence and self-esteem to do that.
Dove’s newest campaign is in partnership with Walgreens and social media. With the popularity of selfies, Dove and Walgreens want to encourage women and girls to use selfies for good and show what #BeautyIs to them. Since the motivation behind a selfie is usually to show off oneself or a moment its also self-serving. I know for me when I take selfies its usually to because I feel good about myself and feel confident. I hate that beauty is such a issue for so many girls but I love that Dove is trying to make a difference.
