Whether you are looking for a first phone for your child, a phone for a family member who doesn’t really need a smartphone but you’d feel better if they had it for emergencies, or you have a child going away to school, there are so many reasons why a AT&T GoPhone makes sense.
If your not familiar with what a GoPhone is from AT&T, let me explain. It is pre-paid wireless service. You can still get some of today’s hot cell phones but there are no monthly bills. You buy pre-paid cards and load them to your account for a specific amount.
Why would you want to use a GoPhone?
Maybe you need to keep your bills at a certain amount but still want a cell phone. With a GoPhone you can buy a refill card for as little as $25 that lasts for up to 90 days. There may be some months you can go without even refilling your account if you end up not using it. It is a great way to budget yourself.
Perfect for a first phone for your kids. There is less of a commitment since you are not signing a contract. Try it out and see if it works for your family before signing the typical 2-year contract.
No surprise bills! This is especially important if you give your child(ren) a phone and they go a little crazy with it. I remember one of my first cell phone bills had some international calls I made on accident and then I remember the overages from text messages before we had unlimited text messaging. Maybe its not their fault, maybe they don’t understand but after using up all their refill for the month right away may teach them to be more responsible the next month. They can’t go over their plan since once they run out of money on their phone, they are out.
Maybe you just need a phone for certain times of the year. I remember my younger brother taking over my mom’s phone during baseball season and then once it was over he didn’t really need it. My mom liked that he was able to call her when he needed to be picked up or if there was an emergency. With a GoPhone, since there is no commitment you can just pay for the months you need it.
Have a phone already and just want to activate it? You can activate your own phone (or tablet) with a GoPhone SIM Card Kit. The phone needs to be either an AT&T phone or if its from another carrier, it has to be unlocked. It works with Feature phones, iPhone, select Android and Windows smartphones and Blackberry Z10 and Q10. You’ll obviously want to check to see if your phone is compatible but its just $5 for the SIM card. The Benefits of a GoPhone:
- 4G LTE speeds on the AT&T network
- No annual contract
- No credit check
- Easy and fast activation
- Great plan choices
- Lots of phone choices
I know what may hold some people back from using a GoPhone is that they think its all outdated phones. Well nope you can use today’s hot smartphones. I got the chance to use the Samsung Galaxy Express with the GoPhone service and it was so easy. I just put in the SIM card, called in and added the refill of the $60 and I had a $60 credit.
For some people a GoPhone doesn’t make sense but there are plenty of people who could really benefit from the savings from using a GoPhone. For example, I pay almost $40 a month for my mom’s phone and she barely uses it. She actually went months without using it because he old phone broke and she wasn’t eligible for an upgrade for a discounted phone. What a waste of money! Or then there is my brother who is doing the study abroad program right now and I still have to pay for his full service. If your sick or paying so much for your cell phone each month or maybe you rarely use it, a GoPhone from AT&T is definitely something to consider.

WOW! What a great plan for those who do not talk on the phone a lot or text all the time. This sounds like a great plan for me. I like that the minutes last 90 days.

This is a very good option and although I havent heard of this company, we have a phone through a plan similliar to it. We love it because of no contracts and we only pay for what we use.

This would be a great phone for my elderly mother — she does not use the phone that much.
