My boys have always been car and truck fans, my 8 year old especially loving farm equipment. From tractors to combines to graders, he loves all sorts of farm vehicles. When he was younger, he loved to play with them and browse picture books about them and now that he is getting older he enjoys reading about them.
Well a new series has come out geared towards kids ages 4-8 that uses real photos to show the iconic red CASE IH tractors as well as other farm equipment in action. To make the information more kid-friendly it has animated characters that explain how the machines work throughout the book. There are tons of facts packed into the book, picture glossaries and other fun farming facts. The author is seasoned educator and national curriculum writer Holley Dufek who is joined by Pixar “Cars” artist Paul Nunn. They seriously are a great team with how the book is presented.
The “Casey & Friends” series is going to contain a total of four titles with the most recent one being “Big Tractors with Casey & Friends.”
Big Tractors with Casey & Friends
(Apr. 2015) shows how the biggest, most powerful tractors handle the demanding jobs of pulling and powering on the farm. Find out how Big Red and Sammy – the biggest tractors on the farm – use their powerful muscles to work in the field with the rest of the team. Learn about the science of farming and discover how advanced technology makes Big Red and Sammy special.
This book is awesome! I was worried that my son wouldn’t like the girl character, Casey, who is throughout the book but he didn’t even notice. The book is jam packed with so much information and great pictures that I don’t think my son has even touched on everything in the book. From the animated pictures to the realistic pictures to the glossary and tips, so much is included! There are so many facts throughout the book that I didn’t even know about and I can see my son’s wheels turning in his brain with the desire to learn more. I love when books engage my kids to want to know more about various topics and this series is a great starting point. It is easy enough for young kids to enjoy the pictures and parents read to them or for older kids to read on their own. I love that there is going to be a series of these books about different farm vehicles!

I remember when I was young, we lived near a farm until the village bought them out to make room for more homes, we would end-up behind a tractor on the road. Talk about slow!! But there was usually a kid riding on it with someone. I remember the kids always waving and laughing – so they must have been fun to ride on!
