    Are you someone who drives less than 10,000 miles a year? Maybe you have a short commute each day to work of less than 10 miles or maybe you just don’t drive a lot in general. My husband used to drive about 80 miles a day roundtrip and a few months ago he switched to a job downtown where he takes the train each day. So now my husband drives about 8 miles a day roundtrip just to the train station and back. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there that barely drive their cars but still pay a lot for car insurance. Why should people that barely drive their car pay as much for car insurance as those who drive a lot?

    Well Metromile is a company who designed their insurance policy for those who drive less than 10,000 miles a year. The average Metromile customer saves $500 on car insurance when they switch. Plus new customers in Illinois receive a bonus of 250 miles!

    Metromile conducted a study and found that Illinois drivers on average only commute 0-10 miles a day. 64% of drivers pay higher premiums to subsidize the minority who drive the most. Those who drive less should be able to pay less for insurance, right!

    How does Metromile track your usage? Metromile uses an OBD-II device that plugs into the car’s computer system to track usage. Drivers only pay a few cents per mile with a low base rate each moth for full coverage. Metromile also connects your car to your smartphone to offer features including your car health information (diagnostic trouble codes), car location, street sweeping alerts (avoid those pesky parking tickets!) and customizable trip logs. So Metromile offers not only a way to save money on your car insurance but also some cool features.

    The first thing I thought though is what if you have to go on a road trip, will you have to pay an arm and a leg for insurance? Well Metromile actually has a cap of 150 miles per day (250 miles a day in Washington) so if you go a long trip you won’t be charged over those miles. Oh and Metromile doesn’t consider other driving factors such as how fast you drive, how suddenly you turn, or how hard you brake, just how many miles you drive.

      It depends on the day, but some days I put 50 to 75 miles on my car driving my son to college if it is raining as he only owns a motorcycle, Thanks for the chance!

      I would guess that I drive about 30-35 miles a day. Typically just to and from work (any errands I try to run in the same trip). Thanks for the giveaway!

      0-5 miles on weekdays, since I am a stay-at-home mom living in a small town. On weekends, probably 90-120 miles if we go out of town, 20 if we just go around town and to church.

      Depends on the time of the year. From September through June I usually drive about 25 miles a day taking my son to school and running errands. However, during the summer I drive less than 10 miles a day.

      I don’t drive a whole lot anymore since I am a retired teacher/ retired Realtor but I enjoy shopping and visiting family. Probably about 15 miles a day!

      I work at home so mainly the only places I go is the store so if I do drive it would only be around 5 miles a day.

      I am currently unemployed due to medical reasons, so personally I drive very little each week. Maybe 5-10 miles.

      I, personally, don’t drive because I’m legally blind 🙂 I do spend at least two to three hours on the bus most days though 🙂

      I would say about 100 miles a day or more. My husband runs a small business. Our truck love Gas and Boy does she Guzzle it.

      I don’t drive very much every day, but once per week I drive about 40 miles to visit my dad and then I also drive to Pittsburgh about 8 times a year to pick up my son at school or take him back and that’s an 800 mile roundtrip ride.

      My commute does not involve leaving the house so most week days it might only be a quick errand of driving only 1 – 5 miles. My husband works about 5 miles away but rides his bike 2-3 days a week. I feel very fortunate neither of us drives a lot each day.

      I personally don’t drive much anymore – my husband does. But we’re empty nesters, so we don’t go far! Church, shopping, families/friends’ homes, doctor’s appointments, sometimes out to eat.

      I don’t drive during week days normally – but maybe 1 mile max. Weekends are a different story. My boyfriend on the other hand probably drives 10 miles a day to get to work and back.

      I work at home so I dont drive everyday. I’d say about 100 miles total a week though for running errands and running the kids places

      This would be excellent for my grandma who shares the trip to work with a coworker. They take turns each week driving. I personally drive a lot. We put a lot of mileage on our vehicles.

      I think I run a taxi service taking all my family where they need to go. I would estimate I drive about 50 miles a day.

      My hubby is a rural mail man and uses our vehicle to drive and his route is 131 miles, so he drives a LOT each day!!!!!

      We drive about 20 miles a day. Work and school is close but we go to drop off the kids in the am and pick them up, grocery shopping, etc.

      On a typical day I don’t generally drive at all. I only drive when I have a doctor’s appointment or need to go somewhere without hubby…it’s a male thing you know…can’t stand to see a woman in the driver’s seat!

      My driving habits are very erratic right now: my Dad is living with my after having major surgery, so some weeks I maybe drive 5 miles (a few quick trips to the grocery store). The next week we may have several doctors appointments, which are all 45 miles away, so I can do 200 miles in two days.

      I don’t drive that much.. some days not at all, especially during the fall and winter when its not hot. So I’d say its 5-20 miles a day, more on rare occasions.

      some days we just drive about 5 miles to the store and other days we can drive 50 – it varies – we drove less last year though – we just moved so stores are closer for us so we will probably drive less now

      I think I probably drive 2 or 3 miles a day driving my daughter to work,some days I don’t drive at all because I don’t have a reason to go anywhere or I ride with my husband after work in his car.

      I drive in town only and drive about 20 miles a day on average. The farthest I drive my car is about to close by towns, the farthest 50 miles away.

      I’m pretty lucky, I take the bus to work, if i go to stores and errands probably 10 to 20 miles but it isn’t every day at least.

      I drive roughly 52 miles every day, to and from work, then my car typically gets parked at home for the weekend.
