I partnered with NatureSeal® in sharing my honest opinion.
Honestly, I have a love/hate relationship with fruit and other produce. I love to eat it fresh, but I hate when the food starts to brown almost immediately. One of my favorite snacks are fresh cut up apples, but then they tend to brown and turn mushy. Or we have the problem with guacamole that we always make for parties that turns brown and goes to waste because no one eats it.
What if there was a way to inhibit browning without changing the taste of your fresh-cut produce? Sounds crazy and impossible to me, but then I tried NatureSeal®. Seriously NatureSeal® is amazing! It has been used throughout the fresh-cut produce industry for years, but now it is available to us consumers. Whoohoo for us consumers being let in on the big secret of no more brown produce!
So what is NatureSeal®?
NatureSeal® is a simple blend of vitamins and minerals, initially developed by Mantrose-Haeuser Co., Inc. and the USDA, that keeps select fresh-cut produce, including apples, pears and stone fruit, from browning. NatureSeal maintains the texture and color of cut produce, without altering the flavor. NatureSeal® products are sulfite-free, gluten-free, GMO-free and Kosher and Halal certified.
How does it work?
You simply put the NatureSeal® for Fresh-Cut Produce powder in 8 ounces of water and drop in up to 5lbs. of cut produce. Let the produce sit for one minute, drain, seal up in a bag or covered container and refrigerate. I tested this out and cut up an apple, soaked in NatureSeal® for one minute, sealed in a Ziploc bag and days later the apples are still fresh looking in my fridge!
Here is how simple it is to use:
My kids are so excited to be able to take fresh cut apples to school that are not brown by lunchtime. I tried buying pre-cut apples in little snack sized packages but my boys said they tasted funny and were slimy. NatureSeal® really leaves the produce as it is when its first cut. It doesn’t leave anything funny tasting on the produce. I cannot say enough good things about this product and it may be exactly what my family needed to eat more produce throughout the day. Yes, I know it doesn’t take long to cut up an apple each time someone in my family wants one, but it is a lot easier for them to grab them from a container and they are more likely to do that if I am busy.
Here are the apples I cut up and soaked in NatureSeal® days ago and put in the fridge:
The NatureSeal® for Guacamole & Avocado treats up to 2lbs. of guacamole or 1 lb. of avocado slices. I am excited to be able to have avocado slices to snack on and fresh guacamole.
Here is a Time Lapse video NatureSeal® created which shows off the magic:
Yes it works!
Honestly, I was skeptical when I saw the plain packaging. Too often I have had high hopes for products only for them to be too complicated to use or just not work like they are supposed to. NatureSeal® is not one of those products, it is one that actually works and one I will personally be continuing to use. With the produce package too being good for up to 5 lbs. I think they are a great value too, especially considering my family will be eating more produce!
