My 9 year old son has tried many sports these past few years but nothing so far really sparked within him. He has done swimming, hockey lessons, basketball and soccer and while he was excited when he first did them, he immediately regretted it and asked to quit. I knew it was only a matter of time before he found something so I tried not to push him.
My husband comes from a line of hockey players and still plays hockey himself. My boys were on the ice at 3 years old and had lessons off and on. My 8 year old son decided he only wanted to play soccer and still loves soccer. My 9 year old though has been taking hockey lessons and during a recent one he got to do a scrimmage game. He absolutely loved it and didn’t realize that after lessons he would get to be an actual hockey player!
So this past weekend he had tryouts to be on an actual hockey team and his face was priceless afterwards. He got off the ice after an hour and said he could have kept on going! I explained that he will still have to do hockey practices but once a week he will actually be playing in a game – he was still up for it. I love that he is so excited about this new journey in his life and he inspires me with his determination.

How fun that your son gets to practice and play hockey. Nice to see kids being active and engaged in sports activities.
