I partnered with SoulPancake in exchange for sharing this information and my honest opinion.
Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? I honestly had no idea but think it is great to help bring attention to the issues so many people are dealing with.
SoulPancake is a media company that created some videos to inspire, uplift and engage with others in a real, raw but still entertaining way. Mental Health issues affect people differently and unless you experience it firsthand with yourself or a close friend/family member, it may not be something easily understood.
The first video from SoSonia called, “Happiest Girl in the World”, is a moving and powerful video that shows us that sometimes the face we show to the world isn’t really how we’re feeling inside.
The second one is called, “Illuminate”, is a beautifully shot scripted short about a boy who struggles to deal with his mother’s depression, and eventually ends up building her a rocket ship to take her away from her pain.
Looking for more videos that will make you feel good when watching them? SoulPancake uploads new videos weekly about art, culture, science, philosophy, spirituality and humor. Their slogan is “We make stuff that matters.”
I have a great giveaway from SoulPancake for a $25 Visa just by checking out one (or both) of the videos above.

I really liked the Illuminiate/A Rocket Ship to the Moon. The Little Boy couldn’t understand why his Mom cried and suffered from Depression. But his imagination and creativity helped him to dream of going to the moon. The part where he takes his Mom’s hand and takes her into his Rocket is inspiring.
RT says
Both were very well done. The boy building the rocketship was very touching. Depression, OCD, and Anxiety really touches us all. We really don’t know what others are going through and we don’t always see how it affects others.
sharon walker says

Angela Kinder says
I was moved by The Happiest Girl video. My sister suffers from anxiety (social anxiety and general anxiety disorder) and The Happiest Girl shows that the happy face people with a mental illness puts on in public isn’t the emotion they are feeling. My sister has taught me that, but it was interesting to see it on video.
Christina Sparks says
The Happiest girl in the world, I think a lot of people can relate or know someone who has been in this situation.
Lisa says
The rocket ship video was really sweet, I like that it shows everyone is affected.
vickie couturier says

Cynthia C says
The Happiest Girl video shows that all is not always as it seems with people. I think everyone can relate to it at some level.
Jan Lee says
I liked the one about the rocket regarding depression. I worked for many years with people who have disabilities and not every disability is one you can see. Mental Health is just as important to being a productive adult in the world, as is being able to breathe to be alive. I wish people with depression would be able to get the help they need, since depression is so crippling to one’s health and their families.
Natalie says
I loved the second video! I loved that this boy built a rocket ship for his mom to help her escape her pain.
sherry butcher says
living with depression everyone needs someone reaching out to us in some way to make us feel better!
sandra says
i like that they depict what it’s like to live with a mental illness

The happiest girl in the world was a great title for that video and it hit close to home. Nobody ever knows what I am going through and everyone thinks I’m really happy all the time. I appear to not have a care in the world.

Another set of great videos from pancake! I love the sweetness of the little boy who knew somehow he needed to help his mom. And I loved the girl who looked happy on the outside but not on the inside realize that life is still good. Both are great videos to share different sides of depression.
Julie Wood says
I like the video with the boy talking about his mother sleeping a lot with depression, and how he made a rocket ship to the moon to brighten up his Mom and she loved it. That is what we all need, a loved one reaching out to us in some way to make us feel better!
