I received this car for one week to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
Mazda is an SUV I never really considered. I just always thought of Mazda as sporty little cars and never gave it a second thought that they also carried SUV’s. The 2016 Mazda CX-5 is an SUV that I am glad I got to try out. It is an SUV that fit my family of five and we loved whipping around town in. It even earned a Superior rating, the highest possible from the IHHS, for Front Crash Prevention when equipped with available Smart Brake Support Systems.
Features I loved:
MPG – It uses a 2.5L SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine that is said to have better EPA-estimated highway MPG than the competition. The Highway MPG is 30 and city MPG is 26.
Efficient – The SKYACTIV-Body of the CX-5 was engineered to be light for greater maneuverability around corners and when braking. It really does whip around corners well and it doesn’t seem bulky like other SUVs.
Advanced Keyless Entry System – With the Engine Start button you can easily start the car with your keys in your purse/pocket. There is also a button on the car handle you can push without pushing the un-lock on the keys! So convenient when I am juggling with my kids.
Roomy – It is a 5-passenger car and I was able to fit my three kids comfortably in the backseat. The backseat is also adjustable in the sense that you can put down the seats to give it more trunk space, perfect for lugging big objects!
Easy to use Touch Screen – I like navigation systems that are easy-to-use without having to read a whole manual. I had no problem using it and was able to find everything I needed. The console is actually pretty nice too in design, in addition to all the smart technology built into it. The smart technology includes MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system.
This is a text coming through, very cool!
Individual customization – Drivers and passengers can control their own comfort with available dual-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats.
AWD – Users can get the versatility and security of all-wheel drive without the hefty fuel penalty dragging you down. Usually SUVs are gas guzzlers and drag but this car is very sporty and efficient.
Lots of Safety Features:
- Smart Brake Support helps minimize or possibly prevent frontal collicions when driving more than 10 MPH. The brake is automatically applied to avoid obstruction.
- Advanced Dual Front Airbags
- Tire pressure monitoring system
- BlindSpot monitoring
- Rear cross traffic alert
- Anti-lock Brake System
- Dynamic stability control
- Traction control system
Overall, I have added the 2016 Mazda CX-5 to my list of potential SUVs. Right now I’m in a mini-van because it is easier with younger kids (mainly because of the sliding rear doors) but I can’t wait to get back into an SUV. I loved how the CX-5 really did fit my family and it felt nice zoom around in it. The car surprised me in every sense from its stylish and functional design to its numerous safety features. I felt like I was in a luxury car rather than an affordable SUV (this one runs around $30,000.)

Sounds like a nice car. I have 3 kids also, so it’s nice to know they can fit. The trunk space looks good. I like the dual control air, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. I’ve always wanted those features in a car.

I might add, having 5 kids I too need the room and this one would do it. Really like it

I have a ’16 CX-5 that I got in October. It was a trade “down” form a Pilot, but a huge step up in technology (from an ’04) and gas mileage. My husband has a ’15 Mazda3, so it’s very nice having the same entertainment/nav system.
