This school year I have vowed to cook more. My boys are in school full time and my daughter is in school all morning. So basically I have until lunchtime on my own to get everything done that I need to, or rather want to without any kids at home. I am getting tired of fast food too which has become our go-to dinner too often lately.
Well Taste of Home has come out with a cookbook called The Simple & Delicious that has become my best friend, well as much as a cookbook can be a best friend! Yes the same Taste of Home that publishes the awesome magazine jam packed with cooking goodness now has a book filled with quick and easy recipes.
This cookbook is a giant binder that has 1,314 easy recipes sorted into various chapters. No matter your family’s needs there is a recipe for it in one of the 20 big chapters!
When I first got this book I literally sat and went page for page browsing all the recipes. It is a very visual book with color pictures for almost every recipe. I am a very visual person and not very imaginative so if a cookbook lacks pictures I will probably skip over those recipes. Having this book is like having your own CulinaryLab Cooking School edition at home!
Each recipe includes Prep and Cook Times, so you can make sure you have enough time to cook the recipe for your family, Nutrition facts so you can meet your family’s dietary needs and ingredients that you will automatically recognize. My issue with some recipes is they feature ingredients that I don’t even know what they are or where to find them, these recipes are truly easy. Many of the ingredients you actually probably already have on hand!
I was able to find so many great recipes that my whole family will enjoy, which can be tough with five of us. One recipe in particular was one my 8 year old has been begging me to make and even though its 80 degrees out, I knew I had to make my baby the Loaded Potato Soup he has been asking for.
Oh and yes I zeroed in on the Slow Cooking tab because those are my favorite recipes. The recipe took me the amount of time it said it would and was a hit with my family. Even my 9 year old who is extremely picky walked in from school and asked “What is that good smell?” The soup was a hit and my kids are already asking when can we have it again.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this cookbook other than its a must have. I have pretty much gotten rid of all of my cookbooks since I can find so many on the internet but I am very much a pencil and paper kinda girl. I like holding the cookbook, browsing it and putting post-its on recipes I want to try. I have found too that my kids like browsing the book and helping plan out our meals. When you are cooking a particular recipe too there is a clear plastic page tab that you can easily move around the book to wherever you need it. The plastic page also keeps the recipe pages safe from cooking messes!
Get your Taste of Home Simple & Delicious Cookbook and start cooking! With winter coming out, who wants to go out to eat anyways? From casseroles to Slow Cooking to Fast Comfort Food, there really are so many recipes you’ll want to cook!

I love Taste of Home – I get their magazines. That looks like a real nice quality cookbook. I like that it’s in binder form so the page you want will stay open. I didn’t know they had a new cookbook, so thanks for sharing.
