I have partnered with Mrs. Fields® to help spread awareness for this campaign.
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. A mother may be a hero to a child for finding their lost toy. A father may be a hero for fixing a broken toy. A police officer may be a hero after he nabs the bad guy. A nurse may be a hero after she patches up her patient. I always thought of my grandma as my hero. She came over to the United States at just 18 years old not knowing English and just knowing a few relatives here. She taught herself English, got a job and raised a family of her own. I cannot even imagine how scary it was for her and how hard it must have been to leave her parents and siblings behind. She came for here for a change and to create a life for herself.
Mrs. Fields wants to recognize America’s hometown heroes. Mrs. Fields, yes the cookie company, has launched the Share Your Hero campaign. They want to hear hero’s stories and donate $5,000 to a charity of a hero’s choosing. Plus an honorary Hometown Hero event. Heroes are heroes because they do good deeds because it’s what right. They don’t do things for the glory or for admiration. Heroes should be recognized whether it a big or small token of gratitude.
Last year’s winning hero was a Bentonville teacher named Mary Mae Jones. She is a lifelong educator, teaching for 40 years retiring at the age of 81. She has invested her time and money to generations of students and has a simple philosophy for education that all students like to be accepted, appreciated and challenged.
