As a mom of three I have created and received many invitations in my nine years as a mom, and I have really learned a lot. It is amazing how even though an invitation sounds like a simple thing. It really can make or break the occasion.
Be clear on what type of party it is and what needs to be brought by guest.
For example, a few weeks ago my son received a birthday invite from a girl at school and the location was a nearby hotel. Now I know the invitation was for a pool party at the hotel but the parent did not list that it was a pool party, nor did they mention to bring a swimsuit and towel. We couldn’t make it but it made me wonder how many parents showed up without suits for their kids because they had no clue.
Have someone proofread the invite to make sure everything is spelled write.
I once spelled the month wrong on an invite because I wasn’t paying attention!
Answer the W’s – Who, What, When and Where
Again be clear on what the party entails. Maybe you want the guest to bring a donation instead of a gift or there are specific rules for the place you are having the party at – make sure you cover everything. This is important too if there is a waiver for your child that should be filled out ahead of time.
Make fun invitations!
Remember the invitation is the first impression guests will see covering the party so start the party off right with a fun invitation. Companies like Basic Invite allow you to customize invites with not only different designs and styles but also colors. There are over 180 different color options to choose from!
Get a sample!
If the occasion is a big deal like a wedding or bar mitzvah, then you might want to get a sample printed of the actual invitation first. Sometimes it is hard to see colors and words from a preview but a physical copy looks good.
Think about the envelopes.
Nice envelopes really do add to the invite themselves. I personally like the envelopes that are peel-and-stick so I don’t have to worry about licking them. Some companies even allow you to have your return address stamped on them for one less step for you to do!

You are so right about providing the necessary information. It makes it so much easier when you know what to bring and wear.
