I think the very first LeapFrog product I received was at my baby shower and ever since the products have continued to be hits in our household. From infant toys through my elementary aged kids, it is amazing how the products grow with my kids.
The latest product from LeapFrog I got to check out is Melody the Musical Turtle. It is a medium sized toy designed for preschool aged kids that plays music as well as memory games for kids.
The turtle has numbers 1-10 on her back and they light up depending on the activity. The games can be played between 1 or 2 players and it speaks directions so kids know whether to push 1 or 2 for the game. Some younger kids may not still follow the direction but they will get it eventually. My 5 year old daughter’s favorite game is where you guess the song and you push the numbers until the song can play. My daughter loves to shout out the song title as each key is pushed trying to guess it. So yes even though my daughter is at the end of the recommend age for this toy, she still enjoys it. I think a 2 year old would really have a ball with this toy and while they wouldn’t understand the games they would still enjoy everything it says.
While this turtle is geared towards teaching about numbers, it also helps with recognizing colors, following directions, listening skills and music fun. It is a good sized toy as well, not huge but not too small either. It is easy to change to the different activities by sliding a switch and you can also adjust the volume to two different levels which is nice. I felt the lowest volume was perfect and not annoying to listen to. For the price too of $20 (or less if you catch it on sale) it would make a great gift!

(Jamming Out With Melody the Musical Turtle) A friend of mine just became a grandma for the first time about six months ago. This would be perfect for her little grand-daughter to play with.
