Missing Downton Abbey? I was hooked on it and fell in love with Masterpiece Theater on PBS. Well if you are looking for a fix PBS-style, Home Fires will keep you watching through the whole season and for a quick movie night there is The Widower.
Home Fires: Season 1
Starring Masterpiece favorites Samantha Bond (Downton Abbey) and Francesca Annis (Reckless) as part of a remarkable group of women living in a small rural village during World War II. Separated from husbands, fathers, sons and brothers for years at a time, they find themselves under extraordinary pressures in a rapidly fragmenting world.
The Widower
Based on a chilling true story, The Widower tells how a seemingly mild mannered male nurse, Malcolm Webster (Reece Shearsmith) poisoned and murdered his first wife, attempted to do the same to his second wife, and further schemed to deceive his third fiancee.
BUY IT: Look for the DVDs The Widower and Home Fires: Season 1 on Amazon or wherever DVDs are sold.
WIN IT: (5) US winners will receive the DVD “The Widower” and “Home Fires: Season 1”

Bravo. As an anglophile, I find it tough to nudge my friends & family to tune into PBS for Masterpiece. This prize would make it easy to share.

Well of course, but it’s having to wait right now for all the Christmas stuff. Doc Martin. I never did watch Downtown Abby. I have watched Upstairs Downstairs when it was on. Lately I’ve watched some stuff that was on PBS in the past on Netflix. Though I don’t know how much longer we’ll keep it. Trying to cut some costs and so the hubs might be cancelling it. I think I’d love to watch Home Fires since it is about WWII. I know it is not in Black & White, but I am a big fan of old movies in Black & White.
