    American Girl Goes Hawaiian With Nanea Mitchell

    The newest doll launched by American Girl as part of its BeForever doll collection is Nanea Mitchell—a Hawaiian girl growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1941.

    Nanea’s story focuses on the bombing of Pearl Harbor during World War II and the courage of islanders who lived in the home-front. In creating the Nanea books and product collection, American Girl worked closely with a five-member advisory board—including an eyewitness to the Pearl Harbor attack—who provided their expertise in Hawaiian culture and history to inform all aspects of Nanea’s development.

    Standing 18 inches tall, Nanea (nah-NAY-ah) Mitchell has big hazel eyes, wavy dark-brown hair and island tanned skin. She is wearing a bright red shirt with Hawaiian houses on it, Sailor-style moku shorts, sandals and a faux-hibiscus hair clip. With posable and moveable body parts she is the perfect playmate. Her hair is probably my favorite because it is so long and fun to style.

    She truly is beautiful and such a great role model. My daughter loves her and I appreciate that I can use Nanea’s storyline conversation piece. I love how American Girl goes the extra step to make sure their product collection is as factual as can be. They don’t just use research materials either but go as far as working with an advisory board to ensure accuracy and provide additional perspective. Many companies just make up stories about their dolls, which is fun too, but I feel like my daughter can actually learn something about culture and history from American Girl.

    To partner with Nanea’s debut and story of her time during World War II, American Girl is supporting the American Red Cross and their Service to the Armed Forces mission to provide care and comfort to members of the military, veterans, and their families. From 8/21 to December 31, 2017, American Girl will match any customer donation, up to $75,000 maximum, made at americangirl.com or at any American Girl store in the U.S.

      I love that they put her in the time period of World War II and the historical significance of events that happened at Pearl Harbor. It really is amazing how American Girl incorporates important points of history into their dolls. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!

      I love Nanea’s story! My grandparents lived in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor so my daughter knows the history. I would love to surprise her with this special doll!

      What I love most about Nanea is that she is from the past, and calling attention to one of our most crucial historical events. I think girls can learn from her!! I also love her cute little outfit. I know my 7 year old daughter would love Nanea:) Thank you so much for the chance!

      I like the nautical nod of Nanea outfit as well as the diversity that the doll presents! My daughter doesn’t yet have an American Girl Doll as she is just about the right age for one. I am sure she would not only love this doll but love learning about who she is and her cultural background.

      I love that Nanea’s story includes historically accurate elements! I lost a family member at Pearl Harbor, and it’s such a sad, interesting part of our nation’s history. I’m glad that American Girl has chosen to honor it in this way.

      The story behind this doll, ‘Nanea Mitchell’, is a beautiful story that focuses on the ‘courage’ of the islanders rather than on being bombed! This doll is dark headed like my granddaughter & would love to teach her the story behind this gorgeous doll that she can share with the children she will hope to have in the future!

      I love her beautiful hair and eyes! I love that American Girl dolls each have their own backstory and hers is very unique! Great company and lovely dolls. If I won this would be a Christmas gift for my niece who is 8 and has been trying to save enough money to buy an American Girl doll. It would be nice to be able to surprise her.
