Anyone who has visited Dubai before will likely tell you that you are in for a cultural voyage of discovery when you go there and this unique destination is somewhere you will never forget.
Understanding and appreciating Dubai and Muslim traditions is part of that cultural discovery process and there are plenty of other compelling reasons besides that make this place somewhere in the world that you just have to visit to appreciate all that it has to offer.
Enjoy the hospitality
Whether you are checking into a hotel like the Marriott Hotel Al Jaddaf or enjoying some time wandering through a local market or eating at a restaurant, you will notice that hospitality is very much part of the culture in Dubai.
It is fair to say that Emirati life is around placing a high value on family life and children are definitely the bedrock of society and shape the culture in a big way.
You should not be surprised if you are actually invited to join a family for some refreshment and it is polite to accept the offer of tea when it comes with bargaining process during your shopping trips.
The fabric of UAE society
Religion is an integral part of life in this part of the world and you will quickly discover and appreciate just how interwoven Islam is in every aspect of society and the people’s daily lives.
You will find that Dubai is one of the most open and modern societies in the Arab world but it is still good manners to show respect for their faith and enjoy the cultural experience that it offers when you visit this great city.
Desert on your doorstep
The rich cultural heritage of life in Dubai is deeply connected with its relationship with the stunning desert locations that shape the look and feel of this part of the globe.
A great way to appreciate this beauty is to take a desert safari across the truly spectacular landscape and enjoy some of the traditional activities that are part of the cultural heritage, such as belly dancing entertainment and a night under the stars beside a campfire.
A blend of old and new cultures
Think of Dubai as a destination and you might think about duty-free shopping, which is considered to be one of the best retailing experiences to be found anywhere.
International shopping is part of the modern heritage of Dubai but if you want to balance the old with the new a great way of doing that would be to combine a visit to this shopping paradise with a touch of traditional local culture.
A way to do this would be to arrange a visit to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, where you will find a wide range of activities and events that are designed to enhance your learning of their unique cultural ways and beliefs.
Get a birdseye view of the city
Dubai has gained a reputation for doing everything bigger and better than anywhere else and a fine example of this would be the Burj Khalifa.
The tallest building in the world is an inspirational must-do on your list and it is an experience that provides you with a clear view of how Dubai is an impressive mix of old cultures and traditions existing alongside a thoroughly modern structure like the Burj Khalifa.
Dubai is a city that lives up to its billing as a world of wonder.
