At the beginning of the summer, I asked my kids what they wanted to do over the summer. Other than the obvious of swim and play video games all day, they did have a few surprising requests.
One request from my 10-year-old was to make a root beer float! So I suddenly felt like a failure of a parent as my child, who loves root beer and ice cream, had never had a root beer float! Crazy I know!
What better time to try his first root beer float than during the month that hosts National Root Beer Float Day! Yes, August 6th is actually National Root Beer Float Day!
So this past weekend we practiced on perfecting our root beer floats and my kids all got to have their first root beer float. It was seriously the perfect family activity and thanks to the simple ingredients of ice cream and A&W Root Beer, it was affordable as well. My whole family was able to make their own treats and then enjoy their creations! It was a great memory for my kids to have and one that we have already repeated.
Thinking back, I remember my own family growing up creating root beer floats with A&W so it really is a timeless tradition. Once I tasted the creamy flavor of my A&W Root Beer Float, it definitely brought back good family memories.
So whether you are celebrating National Root Beer Float Day (August 6th) or looking for a family fun night idea – A&W Root Beer Floats is the way to go!

I grew up going to an A&W for a treat in the summer for the most part. Fond memories of the A&W Drive-in!
