Do you have one of those kids that asks a lot of questions? Maybe your child is a sponge for information and can never get enough of it. My kids have always been so curious with their favorite genre being non-fiction books.
We have tons of non-fiction fact books that my kids love flipping through with various facts strewn across the pages but they are in no specific order really. One page may be about music and the next animals or a tall building.
The newest book by bestselling author Christopher Lloyd is a book literally about everything (well just about) all in order of how it happened. Each chapter covers a time period with the book going in order through the time periods. Each chapter focusing on events and people during that period. Instead of random facts on a page, it is read like a story where kids can read a few pages and feel like they are living during that time frame and what everything means.
This book is seriously awesome. I actually started reading it on my own and cannot believe how detailed but simple the book is. It is not overwhelming with information but still manages to cover key topics. It reminds me of a set of encyclopedias all packed into one but at a level that kids 10+ can enjoy. It is much more than just a book of facts.

We were watching Hocus Pocus just the other night and my 7 year old asked me ‘Mommy, what is a Virgin?’ I stood still with my mouth open for a moment, and then just told him that that I couldn’t answer that question for a couple more years, lol. Way too early for the birds and the bees!!!

My son asked (he’s 12) what the interest rates are on a typical credit card. We frequently discuss common household finance situations with the kids and try to prepare them for the reality of getting into adulthood.

My children are very open and ask me all sorts of questions. I have always wanted them to know they can always talk to me. My daughter the other day shocked me out of nowhere. I was teaching her how to use the dryer (she is 11 and we believe they should learn these things so they can help out) she asked me if she should do her brothers laundry because boys don’t do know how to do their own laundry. At first I laughed at this and then I realized she sees me do everything for her dad and them. I explained to her that he will be learning to do it as well because he needs to know how to take care of himself. I also went on to explain that her dad does in fact know how to do laundry (though I don’t know if he knows how to work our machines since he has never had to lol) but I always just do it because I am home a little bit more often than him.

My 9-year-old daughter asks a LOT of questions. Every day she comes in and asks me questions I can not answer. Usually, we will ask “Alexa” but most of the time we get the “I’m sorry I don’t know that” response. Other questions I am happy to say I can answer, they’re usually science questions like “why does the ocean look blue sometimes and green or brown other times?” But then I get questions like “What does is mean?” That was a tough one for me. I know what it means but I have no idea how to answer the question.
