I received this car for one week to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
So I have never considered myself a truck person. I think I have just been intimated by them and figured they would not suit my needs. I am definitely a mini-van/SUV fan though and can’t imagine not owning one of those types of cars. When I got the chance though to break out of my comfort zone and try out the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD truck for a week, I decided it was time to break out my inner monster truck driver – because that is what the Silverado is to me, a monster truck!
So what are some features of the Chevrolet Silverado that I found useful?
First, off the model I drove had seatbelts for six people total! There was actually a bench in the front and a middle seatbelt which my kids were amazed by, even though I told them they were too young to sit up there. I love that there is extra seating because you just never know when you will need it.
In general, there is so much room inside this beast of a truck. I felt like my family of five had plenty of leg, arm and whatever room!
The Chevrolet Silverado is built to be the perfect work truck and then family car. I love that I was able to do some home projects with the truck as well as drive my kids to school and sports activities. It was a seamless transition thanks to the luxurious feel and space in the cabin.
The trunk had plenty of room for all of our needs. I threw (literally) hockey bags back there as well as some rocks for a home project. For extra safety there are 12 fixed built-in tie downs and hooks for bungees to secure cargo. I love that there was spots built in so if needed I wouldn’t have to try to find somewhere to hook a bungee without damaging the truck anywhere.
For extra storage, you can flip up the rear seats for more interior cargo space. Additionally, you can store items under the rear seats depending on their size. I was able to fit a case of juice bottles and sode cans underneath the seats!
Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with 7” diagonal color touchscreen, Bluetooth audio streaming for up to two compatible devises and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability. I am really liking the Android Auto capability and definitely miss having that feature, there are just so many apps to take advantage of and you basically shouldn’t need to access your phone at all thanks to it.
Rear Vision Camera provides a view of the scene directly behind the vehicle on the Infotainment screen to help you park and avoid nearby objects. To me this is a must-have, especially with this huge truck, as it gives you eyes in the back of your head basically!
The Silverado comes standard with Teen Driver Technology, an available built-in system that helps you coach your new driver — even when you’re not there. It lets you set a speed alert, a volume limit and more — and with the industry’s first and only in-vehicle report card, it’s easy to track your teen’s driving performance. I didn’t try this feature out but in a few years I will definitely appreciate cars with this!
Many Chevrolet vehicles are equipped with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot through OnStar, which provides an Internet connection that’s fast, reliable and more powerful than a smartphone or mobile hotspot. You can connect up to seven mobile devices at the same time, so your passengers can surf, post, stream and game at 4G LTE speed. Wi-Fi uses your vehicle’s built-in antenna to provide a reliable signal up to 50 feet away from the vehicle. And because it’s powered by your vehicle battery, it’s always on when your vehicle is running or in accessory mode. I actually am not sure if the model I drove had this feature but I know for those who work out of their cars or if you want your kids to be entertained that this is a great feature.
Every Chevy Truck has a roll-formed, high-strength steel Durabed, something no other company offers. I did feel like this truck bed looked and felt different.
Bumpers in the corner and back to easily climb up to truck bed. This was super helpful to reach in the back.
So many towing features. The Silverado HD is the most capable heavy-duty in the segment, with a class-leading towing capability of 35,500 lbs. I did not have anything to tow but for someone who needs that feature this truck really seems to be able to handle a lot!
Did you know that Chevrolet is currently the only manufacturer to offer a four-truck portfolio, including midsize, light-duty, medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks. In addition, each model offers special editions providing even more ways for customers to find their ideal truck. Chevrolet trucks are also known as the most dependable, longest-lasting full-size trucks on the road.
Lots of storage throughout!
Giant mirrors! I admit I was afraid to go through a drive-thru with this bad boy!
