We know that the Fourth of July feels far away at this point, but now may be a good time to think out and plan what you are going to do to celebrate. It is great to have something to look forward to, and that can be the Fourth! So, what aspects of the day can you already start planning out? We have a few ideas to help get you started on planning an exciting holiday.
Have an indoor campout
Let’s face it, the Fourth of July can be one of the hottest days of the year, depending on where you live. So, if you don’t want to brave the heat and go camping, just camp inside. Set up your tent and chairs and get to camping. This is also a great way to introduce non-campers to the camping world. You will be away from bugs and the elements, and will have indoor plumbing.
If you want to up your indoor camping experience, hang some string lights to really set the mood and to mimic the starlight. You can also roast marshmallows on the stove or you can tell spooky stories while only using flashlights. Whatever you choose, just be sure to have fun while doing it.
Dress for the occasion
Nothing says the Fourth of July like an outfit with red, white, and blue. But, if you have worn all your best gear in years past, it is time to get you and the family some funny patriotic shirts to make sure your outfit is on point for the holiday.
There are a plethora of them to choose from out there, so try and pick one that will fit whatever your priorities are. Maybe you are a bald eagle enthusiast, a firecracker fanatic, or a bomb pop bombshell. Just make sure your shirt expresses you and your unique Independence Day spirit.
Make unique treats
You of course can support a small local business for your Fourth feast. But if you find that they are all closed to observe the holiday, you may want to jump into the kitchen with your apron on to make unique treats for your group.
If you are spending time outside, be sure you make a suitable outdoor drink, and if you have the kiddos around, be sure you make a drink they will like as well. Don’t forget the appetizers, main course, and desserts, too! When everyone has a full belly, you know they’ll be enjoying themselves.
Don’t be afraid to let loose
Ok, we don’t mean that it is time to drink too much, but don’t be afraid to have some responsible fun. You work hard all year, so you deserve to have some time to enjoy yourself. If you serve up your famous cocktails, be sure to use a festive cup to set the mood. For some reason, everything always tastes better and is more enjoyable when it is in a fun cup or on a cute dish.
If you are someone that doesn’t drink, you can have fun in other ways, whether that means enjoying a non-alcoholic cocktail, a few glasses of your favorite non alcoholic wine, or watching local fireworks. So, listen to your heart and let yourself let go a little bit.
Take a lot of pictures
Part of having a fun day is documenting it so you can look back on the fun times you shared. Now, we don’t want you living behind your phone, but don’t forget to take a few pictures and videos. The memories will be nice to look back on and share with your family that lives far away. Just be sure that you are in some of the pictures, too. Use that self-timer function and have everyone gather in close to document your day. Who knows, you may even get a good picture to use on your holiday card this year!
So, start brainstorming your menu, pick out your outfits, charge your camera batteries, and get ready to have a memorable Fourth of July. We hope you have a safe, happy, and fun holiday.
